The Clinic Assistant position with Family Planning is a grant funded position through The Right Time Grant through the end December 2027 with potential for long term extension. This position requires clinical knowledge / experience or the willingness to be trained and the ability to provide outreach and educational services in a small or large group setting. This position is perfect for someone interested in the medical field with an outgoing and creative mindset that is willing to work independently to ensure growth of clinical services. This will be done through clinical assisting, through community outreach, and by providing education to patients, community members and referrals sources. This position requires someone with innovative thinking, high personal work ethic, personal accountability skills and ability to professional communicate in a variety of settings. The purpose of this position is to further the scope of services in the clinic and improve outreach services for growth of Family Planning Services through The Right Time Grant (TRT).
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES for the Clinical duties :
1. Educate and counsel patients during the Family Planning clinic and supply visits :
A. Interview and record medical and social history of patients.
B. Provide patient education on all options of birth control methods.
C. Make appropriate referrals to community agencies as needed.
2. Perform limited lab work (phlebotomy and medication / treatment injections)
3. Conduct various medical assistant duties : (BP, UA, Hematocrit, Height, Weight, etc...)
4. Prepare patients for exams. Assist in exam room as indicated.
5. Fill out reporting forms, obtain consents and determine patient fees.
6. Document services thoroughly in the electronic medical record system.
7. Pregnancy testing for patients requesting this service and providing test results and referrals in a caring, nondirective, nonjudgmental manner, following Title X guidelines.
8. Responsible for contacting patients with abnormal test results (in consultation with the Nurse Practitioner). Providing referral information and assisting with follow up.
9. Responsible for counseling and treatment of patients and partners with positive Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, HIV or Syphilis (in conjunction with the Nurse Practitioner). Responsible for any required State Health Laboratory reporting and notification.
10. Set up, stocking and closure of patient exam rooms each day and cleaning rooms between patients, sanitizing clinic and cleaning equipment as needed.
11. Knowledge of office / reception duties and ability to use phone system to support clinic flow as needed.
12. Perform any additional duties as delegated by Program Director.
13. Participates in community events, programs and other various forums to share about Family Planning services. Examples include participating in health fairs, neighborhood community activities, presentations, groups for youth / families and special events. (This will require some evening / weekend work depending on event)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITY
1. Knowledge of and comfort with Family Planning theory, methods and practices.
2. Training and / or willingness to learn in basic medical care, injections, phlebotomy and medication dispensing.
3. Experience and / or willingness to learn medical records keeping, electronic medical record systems and medical terminology.
4. Passion for Family Planning practices and access to all methods of contraceptive for all individuals.
5. Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations work, as related to outreach and education activities by means of verbal, written and visual presentation, including the marketing and promotion of said outreach / events.
6. Ability to work flexible working hours, in total of 30 hours per week, with evening and weekend work as required.
7. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and accurately, orally and in writing with various individuals and in small and large group settings while embracing diversity and demonstrate the ability to work together.
8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of individuals including; employees, community groups, educators, school children, parents, civic associations and the general public as necessitated by the work.
9. Ability to prepare and maintain required reports and records. Ability to develop visual aids and other instructional materials to meet specific training needs. Ability to communicate effectively both written (reports, letters, documents) and orally.
10. Knowledge of clerical skills and ability to operate various software programs, such as; word-processing, spreadsheets, and medical records database.
11. A high school diploma or GED required. Medical Training or Medicaid Assistant certification preferred.
12. Possession of a valid Missouri driver’s license and appropriate vehicle insurance
