Summary
The primary responsibility of the assistant teacher is to manage the classroom, maintain a beautiful environment, and support the lead teacher as needed. Practically, this means that the assistant teacher will ensure the children’s needs are taken care of so that the teacher is free to teach lessons to the children. The assistant will also watch over the children during recess, manage classroom behavior during enrichments, help with special projects, clean the classroom at the end of the day, and support the teacher in administrative duties.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Aptitude for the work to be performed
- Interest in children and education
- Desire to assist students in a learning environment
- Emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved
- Loves children and can manage a classroom of children in a peaceful manner
- A follower of Jesus Christ and a model that children can imitate
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Dean of Faculty finds appropriate and acceptable
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work with Student Information Software
- Ability to work with communication platform
- Composition skill to communicate in writing to parents as well as produce weekly updates, as directed by the Lead Teacher.

Essential Functions
- Prep the classroom at the start of each day to make sure it is a prepared and beautiful environment.
- Conducts morning and afternoon carpool.
- Manage the needs and conduct of the children throughout the day, especially during work time.
- Oversee children using the bathroom and helping younger children when necessary.
- Help the “snack helper” prepare snack as needed
- Mark attendance
- Learn various Montessori lessons after the class has become normalized as needed by the lead teacher.
- Check the children’s works as they complete them.
- Serves as the lead teacher when the everyday lead teacher is absent and a substitute is in the room.
- Performs clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties as assigned by the lead teacher.
- Alerts the lead teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Performs assigned supervision of students during lunch periods, play periods, enrichments, and on field trips.
- Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community.
- Participates in in-service training programs as approved.
- Maintains a safe working environment and encourages colleagues to be safety minded in the performance of all school-related duties.
Physical Demands
The physical demands of this position are generally limited to occasional moving of supplies and other light furniture. Other duties involve walking and playing with students.

- The position entails ongoing teacher training, including any assignments required in association with these trainings.
