I. TITLE OR CLASSIFICATION

Intermediate School Teacher – Art

II. POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Art Teacher will provide a meaningful program of information and experiences designed to meet the needs of the students, school, and community.

A. Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. For Children
Assess pupil needs and develop appropriate learning activities/experiments. To develop art concepts and aesthetic sensitivity in visual arts.

2. To Parents
Prepare required evaluations on individual student progress, needs and/or problems. Foster communications with parents.

3. To School/Staff
Assist in selecting books, instructional aide, and supplies. Assist in formulation and enforcement of school policies and procedures.

4. To District
Maintain competence through professional growth activities during released time.

5. Other Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the school day and be involved in an equitable share of extra-curricular school and community activities.

B. Specific Responsibilities (Subject areas, etc., if applicable)

1. Instruct students in basic skills for using media, supplies, and tools. Provide selection of opportunities for multi-media.

2. Articulate required art program for 7th and 8th grades to provide continuity and variety for a well-balanced program.

3. Provide opportunity for student interested in intra-curricular art activities.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A. Valid teaching credential with at least a supplemental in art or art education.

B. A reasonable competency as a student teacher of art intermediate/secondary school.

C. Familiarity with state art framework recommendations for schools.

Oak Grove School District has a total student enrollment of approximately 8,690 from grades TK-8. There are 15 elementary schools and 3 intermediate schools. Six out of seventeen schools receive Title I funds. Schools range from the highest student enrollment (730) to the lowest student enrollment (269). The percentage of English Learners is 29% representing 56 languages spoken in the district. Oak Grove School District’s focus is driven by the LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan) and school site-specific SPSA (Single Plan for Student Achievement) which identifies short, intermediate, and long-term goals. First and foremost in all activities is the safety of students as well as student success in the areas of math and reading/language arts interwoven with science, social studies and visual and performing arts. Student performance goals have been integrated into the state and federal accountability systems. Annually, the LCAP and SPSA's are updated with our students, staff and various community groups in keeping with our core values, the vision, and the annual goals. The District is located in the southeastern corner of San Jose, California bounded by Capitol Expressway to the north, Canoas Creek to the west, Bernal Road to the south and the foothills to the east.
