We are searching for an energetic and upbeat individual to join our team as an Auto & Property Claims Specialist.
The Auto & Property Claims Specialist will be responsible for handling a variety of minor to complex Auto Injury Claims, General Liability Claims and General Liability Property Claims in the states OHFL operates in. The Specialist position will properly investigate, accurately assess, and expediently resolve claims.
Duties include reading police reports, gathering photos, and other key items to determine liability. This Specialist position will work closely with OHFL’s insurance provider, internal and external legal counsel(s), shop managers, operation leaders, and the Human Resources and Safety departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Examine claim forms and other records to determine insurance coverage.
Plan and conduct investigations, interviews, and correspondence with claimants and witnesses regarding incidents.
Consult police and inspect property damage (virtually) to determine the extent of the company's liability and use varying methods of investigation according to the type of insurance.
Collect and process internal accident reports, including ensuring the preventable/non-preventable ruling is made timely and sent to the Terminal Manager for handling.
Collect estimates from Claimants and approve payments on claims determined to be the Company’s liability.
Thoroughly investigate claims for potential fraud.
Establish an action plan based on case facts, company policy, best practices, protocols, and regulatory requirements.
Prepare a report of findings and negotiate a settlement with the claimant within established guidelines.
Recommend litigation by the legal department when a settlement cannot be negotiated.
Attend litigation hearings as necessary.
Present requests for case reserves or increases to reserves to the Controller for approval.
Support the organization's goals and objectives.
Travel as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills, Experience and Educational Requirements
College degree preferred, but not required.
1 years of experience adjudicating property damage claims and investigations.
Knowledge of adjudicating insurance coverage and negotiations.
Willing to attend continuing education courses leading to industry certifications.
Effective analytical skills to gather information, analyze facts, and make recommendations based on information collected.
Strong oral and written communication skills, providing information clearly and concisely to a variety of individuals.
Strong negotiation and decision-making skills.
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office
Multi-task ability as well as detail-oriented
Customer service-focused
Work independently with little supervision and the ability to work in a team environment.
Basic English language proficiency (reading, writing and verbal) is required.
