What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Elementary Teacher position at Oak Hill Academy?
General Description:
The teacher will work collaboratively with school personnel in providing, implementing, designing and adapting instructional learning (both in person and virtually, if necessary) for the special educational needs of Oak Hill students. A primary focus is the establishment of a positive learning environment which promotes a high level of achievement for all students while considering the backgrounds, diagnoses, and developmental levels of each individual student. Teacher reports directly to the Executive Director and/or Head of School.
Responsibilities:
- Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests by utilizing available testing data (including, but not limited to virtual platforms for distance learning)
- Assigns, grades and communicates classwork/homework and inputs grades in timely manner
- Maintains weekly lesson plans in central electronic files
- Communicates with families in a timely manner
- Works collaboratively with school leadership to develop classroom curriculum, adapt/modify instructional methods and curriculum, create lesson plans and benchmark/progress monitor students’ academic development
- Demonstrate operational knowledge of Internet and Web-related technologies
- Works collaboratively with the Director of Admissions regarding student visitors, feedback and observations.
- Works collaboratively with various support staff to develop social, emotional and behavior management techniques (Conscious Discipline philosophy)
- Cultivates and inspires a respectful learning and working environment including collaborative problem solving with others, ability to give and receive feedback, and general professionalism in the workplace.
