What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant/Kennel Attendant position at Oak Hill Animal Hospital?
We are seeking an experienced individual who is passionate about animals to work within our Kennel and assisting the Veterinarian and Veterinary Technicians in exam rooms.
Must be 18 years of age or older with reliable transportation.
Primary responsibility is Animal health and wellbeing as well as keeping our kennels clean and sanitary. The ideal candidate will have experience performing a variety of duties, including house-keeping, basic animal care and handling and sanitizing kennels. Experience in animal restraint for procedures, exams, and treatments.
We are looking for individuals who have pleasant personalities and enjoy working with people and their animals. For full time we work on a rotating schedule of Weekends, Holidays, and Wednesdays, you will have 2-3 set working days during the week. Part time is still on a rotating schedule of Weekends, Holidays, and 1-2 days during the week.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Provide care for pets housed/visiting the hospital. Perform work according to established methods specified in the procedures manual or following special instructions. Report signs of illness, disease, injury or unusual activity to technicians and/or veterinarians.
- Apply knowledge of normal food requirements of pets. As required, provide special diets as needed.
- At request of receptionists, practitioners and technicians, discharge and admit patients; assure patients being discharged have been checked by technicians; make sure pets are clean and smell fresh prior to discharge.
- Make sure cages and patients are properly numbered and identified and that personal property (toys, treats, blankets, leashes, etc) are stored and labeled in the proper areas/bins.
- Oversee and assist in cleaning kennel cages, runs, isolation, and grooming suites. Wash and clean food and water bowls. Perform general cleaning in treatments, reception, and surgery.
- Bathe, dry, brush, clean ears, and trim nails of patients (as needed).
- Assisting in exam room or treatment procedures with restraint for animals, including restraint for x-rays, blood draws, etc.

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
