Overview:
The Special Facilities Custodian is a Part-Time IMRF Position. We offer competitive compensation, IMRF, PTO and an employee discount for part-time IMRF employees. projected hours are 5 days per week, 5.5 hours per day.
Job Purpose:
The Special Facilities Custodian is responsible for maintaining an inviting, safe and clean environment in and around the Park District’s facilities for guests and staff, including Ridgeland Common and the Gymnastics and Recreation Center. The custodian performs deep cleaning and sanitation, maintaining, and minor repairs of facility public and staff spaces and exterior grounds.
Essential Functions:
- Perform various custodial duties, including vacuuming, mopping, window cleaning, etc.
- Ensure all areas of the facility are kept clean including multi-purpose rooms, gymnastics floor, programming spaces, common areas, bathrooms, offices, and stairways.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff, patrons and participants by being aware of surroundings and notifying appropriate staff of anything unsafe or in need of attention.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive public image by addressing questions and concerns from staff, patrons, and participants or directing them to the appropriate staff member.
- Assist with facility set up for programs, special events and rentals.
- Operate various cleaning related equipment, vacuums, floor machines, leaf blowers.
- Able to safely drive a Park District pickup truck between multiple facilities
- Reports maintenance needs to and follow-up on status with Manager.
- Complete all checklists, reports and paperwork as needed.
- Return all equipment to its proper place as specified and maintain a neat work environment.
- Inspect equipment daily for possible maintenance needs and repair.
- Wear a PDOP staff shirt and identification during all work hours.
- Monitor facility public spaces and greet customers.
- Practice and promote workplace safety.
- Report any hazards around the facility.
- Report facility accidents and incidents with appropriate documentation.
Additional Functions:
- Maintain a complete understanding of Park District emergency action plans and assist in the execution of the plan when required.
- Attend staff meetings and training programs as specified, including preseason trainings.
- Complete other duties assigned by Park District supervisors.
Knowledge, Skills, and Work Experience Required:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Have Valid Driver’s license.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous work experience preferred.
- Must have the ability to solve problems as they arise and be able to perform tasks without supervision.
- Must be motivated and able to assume a positive role, even while working under stressful conditions (hot or cold weather, upset or injured park visitors, etc.)
- Must be able to complete required Park District training.
- Ability to work effectively with entire District staff, work with a variety of people and personalities, and maintain a positive working relationship with other employees.
- Ability to respond to problems or stressful situations at all times and with good judgment and accuracy.
- Certification in advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 1 month of employment and keep certification current. District provided. training.

- Frequently - Walking, standing, reaching, or sitting
- Strength – Must be able to lift 50lbs.
- Will be exposed to chemicals such as cleaning solutions.
- Protective clothing is required as it pertains to the particular job duty. Examples may include: safety goggles, glasses, face shields, protective rubber or leather gloves.
- Will be exposed to cold and heat when working outdoors.
