Overview:
The Wellness Instructor is a Part-Time Position. We offer competitive compensation, PTO and an employee discount for part-time employees.
Job Purpose:
The Wellness Instructor is responsible for leading safe, inclusive, and engaging wellness programs that promote overall health and well-being for participants of the Park District of Oak Park.
Essential Functions:
- Arrive early at each class to prepare the space, ensure a calming and safe environment, and be fully ready to lead a successful session.
- Ensure all wellness materials, props, and equipment are properly sanitized and neatly stored after class.
- Be available up to 15 minutes before or after class to answer participant questions, offer guidance, or provide resources related to wellness practices.
- Modify wellness activities and techniques as needed to accommodate different abilities and ensure all participants have a safe and beneficial experience.
- Foster a welcoming, community-focused atmosphere where participants feel supported and valued.
- Conduct all sessions in a safe manner, adhering to Park District of Oak Park safety policies and procedures.
- Uphold and communicate Park District rules and policies to participants in a respectful and professional manner.
- Provide outstanding customer service by responding to questions, concerns, and feedback from participants, staff, and patrons promptly and positively. Seek assistance from supervisors or other Park District staff when needed.
- Promptly communicate any participant or program concerns, updates, or schedule changes to the Program Supervisor. In urgent cases, notify the Facility Attendant on duty if the supervisor is unavailable.
- Report facility or equipment maintenance issues to the supervisor and follow up as needed to ensure resolution.
- Accurately complete and submit incident and accident reports as required and notify the appropriate supervisor immediately.
Additional Functions:
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as specified.
- Audit Amilia roster and sign-in sheet to confirm attendance accuracy; modify as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or other Park District administrative personnel.
Knowledge, Skills, and Work Experience Required:
- Must maintain current industry certifications.
- Certification in advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 1 month of employment and keep certification current. The District provides this training.
- Must have previous education or experience in teaching classes.
- Knowledgeable in the health and fitness field.
- Must have the ability to solve problems as they arise and be able to perform tasks without supervision.
- Must be highly motivated and able to assume a positive and active role in the park, even while working under potentially stressful conditions (hot or cold weather, upset or injured participants, etc.)
- Must have the ability to enforce park district rules and make sound decisions in order to secure the safety and well-being of all park visitors, facilities, and equipment.
- Must be able to complete the required Park District trainings.
Work Environment, Physical Demands and Considerations:
- May also require handling an average weight (up to 30lbs) of materials or equipment. Must be able to lift up to 30lbs.
- Normal studio conditions for majority of work may include occasional light and temperature variations.
- May be exposed to occasional inclement weather as position may require outdoor work.
- Must be able to respond to problem situations in a mature manner and within the policies and procedures of the Park District of Oak Park.
- Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently and effectively and to read printed material.
- Ability to interact and communicate well with others.
- Ability to interpret and explain District policies and procedures.
- Ability to follow safety guidelines and exercise judgment in all aspects of responsibility.
- Ability to resolve conflict safely, calmly and effectively.
