We are seeking a Nuclear Nonproliferation Specialist who will focus on existing nuclear nonproliferation fuel cycle research. The candidate chosen for this position will be involved in work supporting safeguards missions for uranium hexafluoride applications as well as fundamental properties and characterization analysis of uranium hexafluoride. This position resides in the Uranium Chemistry, Application, and Simulation Group in the Material Modeling & Characterization Section, Nuclear Nonproliferation Division, National Security Sciences Directorate, at ORNL.
This position will spend significant time performing hands on laboratory research as well as effectively communicating the results of the laboratory research in the form of technical reports, presentations, and journal articles.

Q clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Q clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.

- Collaborate with R&D staff member(s) to perform experiments supporting uranium hexafluoride applications research.
- Contribute to targeted reports to meet sponsor’s needs and expectations.
- Perform work activities in a radiological facility.
Basic Qualifications:
- BS in nuclear engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field.
- Experience and familiarity with uranium chemistry
- Experience with working in a radiological facility with vacuum systems
- Experience and familiarity with working in a ventilated fume hood laboratories and/or radiological laboratory setting and work practices
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
- Must possess excellent problem-solving skills and be capable of working with substantial amounts of data.
- Strong written and verbal communication and organizational management skills.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
