Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop software applications and science-based systems.
- Harden and deploy research applications and data services at our facility.
- Collaborate with other research and technical professionals to develop new capabilities that execute on ORNL's mission.
- leading data and compute infrastructures.
- Collaborate with users of our software to resolve technical and logical issues.
- Support multiple technology projects at the same time.
- Evaluate and test third-party software.

Basic Qualifications:
- BS degree in computer science or software engineering, with a minimum of 5 years programming experience OR a MS degree in computer science or software engineering, with a minimum of 4 year programming experience.
- Proficiency with one or more of the following languages: C/C or Python.
- Proficiency with one or more of the following web technologies: PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS.
- Proficiency with SQL for efficient design and optimization (e.g., MySQL, MariaDB).
- Proficiency with Drupal including site building, configuration, and custom module development.
- Proficient knowledge of container technologies (e.g., Docker).
- Experience conducting code reviews, ensuring best practices and adherence to software development standards.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Experience setting up and optimizing CI/CD pipelines and working knowledge of test methodologies.
- Experience with object-oriented design principles and patterns.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Comprehensive understanding of security best practices and compliance standards to ensure data security, integrity, and compliance standards are met.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes).
- Experience working with RESTful APIs and web services integrations.
- Willingness to learn new programming languages and technologies.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in a collaborative setting.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to think critically.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
