We are seeking an experienced Training Professional who will support training at both the divisional level and throughout the directorate.  This position resides with the Training Support Group in the Safety, Engineering, and Support Section of the Nonreactor Nuclear Facilities Division for the Isotope Science and Engineering Directorate, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

If selected, you will work with a team of training professionals to provide exceptional service and training support following proven and systematic processes.

Major Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Contribute to and nurture a strong training culture emphasizing the importance of the training fundamentals outlined in the ISED Conduct of Training.
  • Implement nuclear program requirements as defined in DOE Order 426.2A, Personnel Selection, Training, Qualification, and Certification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities.
  • Complete and maintain designation as a Subject Matter Expert for training.
  • Complete and maintain Instructor Qualification, and OJT Trainer authorization.
  • Assist divisions in validating and tracking training completion, including maintaining accurate records of training sessions, assessments, and qualifications in an organized and readily auditable state for compliance and reporting.
  • Assist ISED Training Manager with implementation of a systematic approach to divisional training programs.
  • Assist ISED Training Manager with the design, development, implementation, and updates to the Conduct of Training program and all associated procedure(s).
  • Coordinate the use of technology and e-learning platforms to develop online modules, webinars, or other interactive training tools for training delivery.
  • Stay updated on training trends, methodologies, and technologies.
  • Work with subject matter experts, instructors, trainers, and instructional designers to prepare training materials, presentations, handouts, and resources needed for training delivery.
  • Encourage open communication, collect feedback from training participants, assess the effectiveness of the instructor and the training materials, and adjust training approaches.
  • Continuously review and improve training programs based on feedback, lessons learned, and advancements in technology or processes.
  • Assist in conducting comprehensive training program evaluations, including procedures incorporated by the respective divisions, as directed
  • Assist in planning, developing, and conducting drills and exercises, as directed.
  • Assign, manage, and track institutional training requirements for each staff member based on position.
  • Monitor and report on staff initial training, continuing training, and qualifications status, as necessary.
  • Ensure training activities are well-organized, efficient, and contribute to the overall growth, safety, and success of the facility or project.
  • Manage the review, approval, and revision control for all formal training documents.

Coordinate and collaborate with subject matter experts and management, operations, maintenance, technical support, principal investigators, lab-space managers, and project staff to :

  • conduct and document training needs assessments.
  • determine training program content and format.
  • develop comprehensive training plan(s) or qualification card(s).
  • assign, manage, and track training identified for Research Safety Summaries (RSS).
  • develop facility-specific training materials including facility unescorted access training and facility walkthrough checklists.
  • develop and manage training materials (e.g. lesson plans and OJT performance packages) necessary to support formal initial and continuing training.
  • determine the best delivery method and assist in the delivery of knowledge-based training, performance-based (OJT) training, institutional training, assigned reading, and qualifications.
  • develop, grade, and administer written and oral examinations, including completing and maintaining designation as an Exam Proctor.
  • periodically evaluate changes in facilities or projects to ensure the required training elements are performed and that personnel are provided training on new or modified facility structures, systems, equipment, and procedures, as appropriate.
  • stay up-to-date with DOE Orders, standards, and training best practices as they relate to the division being supported.
  • Basic Qualifications :

  • BS degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and applicable experience.
  • 1  years of Nuclear experience.
  • 2 years of training experience.
  • Exceptional understanding and ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in a Nuclear Hazard Category 1, 2, or 3 facility is preferred but experience requirements may also be granted for work in a radiological facility or power plant.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Instructional design experience using Articulate, Captivate or other eLearning design program with xAPI or SCORM outputs.
  • Learning Management System (LMS), specifically SuccessFactors, experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with DOE Conduct or Operations, DOE Systematic Approach to Training, DOE Training Program Evaluations, and DOE Nuclear Training Standards.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to work both independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to set priorities based on current projects and milestones.
  • Ability to function well in a high stress and high compliance environment; accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines; and adapt to ever changing needs.
  • Q or L clearance :

    This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
