What are the responsibilities and job description for the X-ray and Neutron Scattering Geochemist- R&D Associate position at Oak Ridge National Laboratory?
Requisition Id 14427
Overview:
We are seeking an X-ray and Neutron Scattering Geochemist R&D Associate who will work to understand the atomic-scale structure and reactivity of minerals, amorphous solids and liquids of geochemical interest using X-ray and neutron scattering, spectroscopic and/or methods. This position resides in the Geochemistry and Interfacial Sciences (GIS) in the Chemical Sciences Division (CSD), Physical Sciences Directorate (PSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
As an X-ray and Neutron Scattering Geochemist R&D Associate you will conduct fundamental studies to understand the structure and reactivity of crystalline phases, amorphous materials, and species dissolved in solution using advanced in situ characterization methods. You should have a geochemical, mineralogical or related background and experience with X-ray and neutron scattering and/or spectroscopic approaches that provide atomic- to nanometer-scale information. These include, but are not limited to, pair distribution function measurement, time-dependent X-ray diffraction, X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XANES, EXAFS), quasi-elastic neutron spectroscopy, small angle scattering, crystal truncation rod measurement and related techniques. You should also have experience in methods for analysis and modeling of the scattering data as well as theories used to interpret the results. Experience in synthesis methods for geomaterials will be considered a plus (such as high-quality mineral or amorphous phase synthesis). You will be expected to work within a highly collaborative team environment both within ORNL and with our partner institutions.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Please provide a list of publications when applying for this position.
Letters of Recommendation:
Please submit three letters of reference when applying to this position. You may upload these directly to your application or have them sent to psdrecruit@ornl.gov with the position title and number referenced in the subject line.
Instructions to upload documents to your candidate profile:
