What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Surgical Technologist position at OAK Surgery Center?

Ravine Way Surgery Center is an Ambulatory Surgery Center located in Glenview, Illinois. We specialize in Orthopedics and are currently seeking an experienced Certified Surgical Technologist to join our team. We have a variety of schedules available and there are no weekends required.

The surgical technologist handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He / she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He / she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly vigilant in maintaining the sterile field.

Responsibilities and Duties

Preoperative duties :

Dons OR attire and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Gather, checks and opens supplies and equipment for the surgical procedure.
Performs the surgical scrub, and donning gown and gloves.
Sets up the sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications / solutions needed for the procedure.
Assists the team members with gowning and gloving.
Assists with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field.
Participates in the surgical site and patient verification during the time out procedure.
Secures tubing, cords and other accessories.

Intraoperative duties :

Prepares and anticipates additional instrumentation, equipment and supplies for usage during the procedure.

Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedure.

Label, measures and passes medications, hemostatic agents and irrigation solutions utilized during the surgical procedure.

Holds retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeon.

Sponges or suctions the operative site.

Applies electrocautery to clamps on bleeders.

Cuts suture material as directed by the surgeon.

Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure.

Performs instrument, sharps, and sponge count with the circulator prior to the operation and before the incision is a closed and additional count as necessary.

Prepares sterile dressings and / or immobilization devices.

Prepares and passes off specimen(s) as appropriate.

Central Supply duties :

Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.

Understands and practices principles of sterilization, universal precautions, and hazardous material management to process instruments, equipment, and supplies through the stages of decontamination.

Able to perform documentation of biological indicators for sterile processing equipment.

Understand the Center's process for maintaining appropriate instrument sets and supplies relating to their sterility, storage, and inventory levels.

Performs proper technique for setting up surgical trays and wrapping them for appropriately for sterilization.

Additional Duties :

Performs related duties as assigned.

Skills / Education / Experience :

Surgical Technologist certification strongly preferred

Two years experience in an OR or ASC required

Base salary offers for this position may vary based on factors such as location, skills and relevant experience. Salary Description

30.00 - $38.00 per hour, depending on experience
