Overview
The Event Services Intern will learn to manage every aspect of upcoming building events from the advance planning stages through the end of the event; observe the building security and interact with local public safety officials to ensure events run smoothly; assist with the coordination of communication between event staff/security and delegate assignments; support overall customer and lessee satisfaction and experience.
Alerus Center is offering a paid internship. We are looking for a student who wants professional level experience and have the initiative, skills and drive to excel. This program will give college students an opportunity to work alongside professionals in the live entertainment, sports, and venue management industry.
This role pays an hourly rate of $16.00.

Responsibilities
- Learn operating systems that are widely used in the events industry such as CAD and Momentus
- Shadow senior event managers on how to advance, plan, service, and supervise events
- Weekly check in reports about what you learning at Alerus Center
- Help the team analyze challenges, identify alternative solutions, and project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of organizational objectives
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with lessees/clients, co-workers, part-time staff, contractors, patrons/public and municipal officials
- Work a flexible schedule, including long nights, early mornings, weekends & holidays as needed
- Complete all duties with a customer service focus through teamwork & dedication to Oak View Group’s principles
- Assist in the preparation of building to meet the requirements of upcoming events/shows
- Learn to create work schedules for event & security staff, delegate assignments, and review performance/results
- Function as a liaison between users of the facility and the facility staff
- Learn to evaluate required event staffing levels for life safety purposes
- Coordinate communication between building staff and show staff during load in and load out
- learn to investigate and resolve event-related complaints in a professional manner ensuring customer satisfaction
- Maintain equipment (radios, metal detection wands, etc.) for all event and security staff
- Shadow and learn to communicate with municipal officials, including police, fire and medical services, event staff and public to ensure security of patrons and events run smoothly
- Review emergency planning procedures with all event staff for each event
- Create and distribute detailed data sheets prior to every event
- Observe how to prepare and approve bi-weekly payroll for all event staff and security staff
- Coordinate service needs with Food and Beverage provider & make hospitality arrangements as needed
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Current student or recent graduate from a university program in venue management, event management, sport management or a related field
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present and communicate new ideas and concepts
- Previous experience coordinating events/programs preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Microsoft Word and Excel)
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
- Extremely organized and detail-oriented, quick learner and great time management skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Work extended and/or irregular hours at Alerus Center events including nights and weekends
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required
