Position Overview:
Oak Violet, the signature restaurant at Park James Hotel, is seeking a visionary Executive Chef to lead its culinary program. The ideal candidate is a creative, hands-on leader with a passion for crafting elevated, locally inspired cuisine while maintaining impeccable quality and consistency. This role requires strong leadership, financial acumen, and the ability to curate a dining experience that aligns with the luxury boutique hotel’s high service standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Culinary Leadership & Menu Development
- Design and execute innovative, seasonal menus that showcase fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
- Maintain a deep understanding of Northern California cuisine, incorporating modern techniques and presentation.
- Ensure consistency in quality, flavor, and presentation of all dishes.
- Stay ahead of culinary trends to keep Oak Violet’s offerings fresh and competitive.
Operational Excellence
- Oversee all kitchen operations, ensuring efficiency, organization, and adherence to health and safety standards.
- Maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including food safety and sanitation.
- Implement and uphold kitchen policies and procedures to ensure smooth service execution.
- Collaborate with the Front of House team to align food offerings with service standards.
Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing culinary team.
- Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Lead by example, maintaining professionalism and a positive kitchen environment.
- Develop staff through coaching and performance management.
Financial & Business Acumen
- Manage food and labor costs to achieve profitability while maintaining quality standards.
- Develop and adhere to budgets, ensuring financial goals are met.
- Work closely with the General Manager to align the restaurant’s vision with overall business objectives.
- Optimize inventory management, reducing waste and maximizing efficiency. Proficient in Craftables and Agilysys POS.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an Executive Chef, Senior Sous Chef or Chef de Cuisine in a luxury or high-end dining environment.
- Strong culinary background with expertise in contemporary California cuisine.
- Experience in high-volume operations while maintaining precision and quality.
- Ability to create and execute menus that appeal to both hotel guests and local diners.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
- Strong business acumen, including budgeting, cost control, and revenue generation.
- A passion for hospitality, innovation, and creating unforgettable dining experiences.
- 5 years of experience as an Executive Chef or similar role.
- Must be located in commutable distance to Palo Alto, California, United States.
