What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kennel Technician position at Oakcrest Veterinary Hospital PA?
Oakcrest Pet Hospital is seeking a hard-working, dependable, self-motivated individual to join our team as a part-time kennel technician. Kennel technicians provide basic care to animals that are being boarded and treated at the hospital. Applicants must have a love for animals, a general understanding of animal behavior and husbandry, and be able to perform moderately heavy physical labor including lifting up to 50 lbs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This position is responsible for the following functions:
- Walk boarding animals in the designated areas outside.
- Feed boarding pets their specified diets.
- Provide clean dishes, disinfected cages, washed bedding, as well as fresh food and water every day for boarding animals.
- Check incoming patients into boarding: discuss medications, feeding, and overall care with clients.
- Provide enrichment for pets using toys and training.
- Record elimination habits, appetite, and signs of illness on the specified charts. Inform a veterinary technician or veterinarian if a patient shows signs of illness.
- Review boarding information on the designated whiteboards and complete the appropriate tasks requested by clients.
- Conduct “playtimes “and “cuddle times” with pets as requested by clients.
- Properly administer medications to boarding animals (including orals and injections).
- Bathe pets as needed.
- Assist veterinary technicians and assistants with boarding exams and other necessary tasks.
- Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the hospital not limited to boarding areas, but including lobby, break room/laundry room, restrooms, and outdoor play areas.
- Report any required repairs or needed supplies to the Office Manager.
