What are the responsibilities and job description for the CMT position at OAKDALE CARE CENTER SNF?
The Certified Med Tech will assist the professional nursing staff by preparing, administering, reporting, and recording residents’ medications and treatments.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Preparation, administration, reporting, recording and storage of non-controlled medication which includes oral meds, suppositories, ophthalmic meds, nasal meds, otic meds and topical meds.
- Preparation, administration, reporting, recording and storage of controlled substances.
- Ordering and reordering of medications with proper use of fax machine and facility procedure.
- Preparation and administration of PRN meds if needed with routine med pass. Proper recording, reporting to nurse, and follow-up recording in MAR inform charge nurse when and why PRN meds were given.
- Administer treatments to residents as assigned by charge nurse following all proper procedures while providing said treatments
- Record all treatments and refusal of medications/treatments in MAR
- Report drug reactions, changes/problems in treatment site, and/or changes in resident conditions to charge nurse, making sure to report all signs & symptoms of reported.
- Provide proper and accurate charting in all areas required including accidents, incidents, and any medication errors.
- Proper recording in PRN medication and follow up on MAR and to charge nurse
- Proper recording on narcotics sheets when narcotics are administered
- Care of medication room and cart including the following: keeping the med cart clean and neat, keeping med cart stocked with equipment needed for med pass (cups, spoons, etc.) including stocking cart with needed stock meds (MOM, Mylanta, etc.).
- Maintain a clean and safe work area free from hazards of fire, spills, litter, chemicals, equipment, etc.
- When finished with med tech duties will work as assigned by charge nurse in CNA capacity (as described in CNA Job Description)
- Must have good verbal communication skills to interact with residents and respond to their needs.
- Ability to communicate with supervisor and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Practices efficient usage of supplies and materials.
- Is familiar with and respects resident's rights and confidentiality.
- Uses proper hand washing to maintain infection control.
- Follows directions and assignments made by charge nurse.
- Must have good observation skills to identify problems.
- Must have regular routine attendance as defined by employee personnel manual.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Completed Certified Nurse Aide Training.
- Certificate in good standing in State Registry.
- Certified Medication Technician Certificate in good standing.
- Experience in a skilled nursing or residential care facility.
