JOB TITLE: Middle School Dean
CLASSIFICATION: Certified
SUPERVISOR: Building Principal
Days: 210 Days
GENERAL STATEMENT OF AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Middle School Dean provides guidance, counseling, psychological, and pupil record scheduling and discipline services. He/she may be required to work before and/or after the regularly contracted year.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
The Middle School Dean is responsible to the building principal.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- May supervise students and/or adults as directed by the building principal.
- May be responsible for the master schedule.
- Coordinates and participates in registration of students.
- Assists with all aspects of the students services program.
- Assists high school counselors in the registration of eighth grade students.
- Initiates and implements student transfers to adjust schedules.
- Coordinates standardized testing programs.
- Screens students for special programs.
- Assists in teacher-student-parent understanding and conflict resolution.
- Helps students with personal decision-making competencies and self-acceptance.
- Shares responsibility for maintenance of student records.
- Acts as referral agent and liaison between community agencies and the school.
- Assists current and former students with educational occupational planning.
- Is responsible for the implementation of the initial steps in the disciplinary process.
- Arranges parental conferences as needed.
- Participates regularly in group and/or individual student counseling.
- Coordinates data for school and computer programming of grades and scheduling.
- Coordinates data for progress reports and behavior reports to parents.
- Counsels with parents/students regarding attendance and other school related problems, as referred by attendance clerk, teachers, parents, or administrators.
- Is responsible for the school in the absence of the principal and vice principal.
- Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with co-workers, fellow employees and the public.

- Abide by Teacher Standards and Practices Commission “The Ethical Educator and Professional Practices”.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Performs any other duties as assigned by the principal.

Education and Experience:
- Successful teaching experience at middle school level desired.
- Successful counseling experience desired.
- Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree desirable).
- Must hold valid Oregon Teaching License; Administrative License preferred.
- Continued training in classroom management skills and techniques.
