Summary of Purpose
The Police Academy at Oakland Community College is seeking a pool of qualified candidates with instructional skills to join our team of faculty and administrators to provide high quality programs to our district, community, and most importantly, our students. Teaching assignments may be temporary, part-time, and / or on call and may be immediate or as needed. This posting is not for a specific assignment or a full-time position.
Applications to the pool are accepted continuously. When the department has an immediate need, applications will be reviewed based on desired skills. Examples of desired skills for instruction include : firearms training, arrest control / defensive tactics, physical training, law enforcement vehicle operation, racial profiling, emergency management, chemical agents, etc.
Applications will remain on file for up to one year. The pool will be closed and reopened each academic year in the fall. Individuals who seek to remain in the pool must reapply each new academic year.
Typical Duties
- Provide lesson plans, objectives and identified outcomes for the learning modules tied to MCOLES Basic Police Training Curriculum.
- Teaches, instructs, and coaches students in basic police training, related topics and skills.
- Monitors students' performance to make suggestions / corrections for improvement and to ensure that they satisfy course standards, training requirements, and MCOLES state licensing standards.
- Works individually and with other instructors to review and evaluate individual students and their progress.
- Maintains accurate and complete student records as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
