Summary of Purpose
The Oakland Community College Health Sciences and Nursing Department is seeking Simulation Specialist(s) for the Southfield and Highland Lakes locations for nursing and health sciences simulation. This position will collaborate with the course faculty and other stakeholders to create immersive, simulation scenarios that enhance clinical education and promote patient safety. The Simulation Specialist must be committed to using modern technology, shared responsibilities, open communication, personal empowerment, integrity, and ethical commitment.

- Collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts to design and develop evidenced-based simulation scenarios tailored to meet education objectives, competencies, and health care standards.
- Support inter-professional, academic educational simulation curriculum development and implementation.
- Assist in the evaluation and continuous improvement of the simulation program, including scenario effectiveness, learner satisfaction, and alignment with institutional goals.
- Operate patient simulators (voice and physiological parameters) and patient monitors during scenario-based training sessions.
- Assist in role playing as a standardized patient, family member, inter-professional member of the health care team, etc. This could include audio and visual recording of training sessions.
- Operate and troubleshoot hospital equipment used in simulation environments (beds, pumps, etc.).
- Assist in maintaining patient simulators and equipment used in the simulation environment.
- Ensure the proper setup, functionality, and maintenance of simulation equipment and technology.
- Maintain awareness of scheduling in relation to availability of physical and technical resources for learners to have a successful simulation experience.
- Assist in conducting tours as requested for internal and external customers.
- Assist in the exploration of new, creative directions in health sciences and nursing simulations.
- Uphold all policies and procedures in accordance with INACSL (International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation and Learning) and SSH (Society for Simulation in Healthcare) standards.
- Assist in scheduling and coordinating simulations with Director of Simulation and Learning Technologies.
- Assist with maintenance of records and documents related to simulations.
- Keeping current on new simulation technologies and applications.
- Flexibility in work day; evening and weekend shifts.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Able to work as a team player in a multi-cultural working environment.
- Able to independently lift and maneuver objects weighing up to 23 kilograms or 50 pounds.
- Frequent bending, lifting, standing and sitting are required.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Associate’s degree, preferably in healthcare.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in healthcare industry, simulation or clinical preferred.
