Summary of Purpose

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative individual to join our team as the Vice Chancellor for Information Technologies / Chief Information Officer. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in learning technologies and AI, with a passion for leveraging these tools to enhance the educational experience. Familiarity with the Ellucian or similar technology platform is highly desirable.

Typical Duties

1. Supervises all information systems personnel including managers / supervisors, system analysts, application programmers, user support, system programmers, telecommunications support, and instructional media operators.

2. Leads in development of the overall information and telecommunications infrastructure both for immediate deployment and for long-term growth and development, including planning, acquisition of hardware and software, training documentation, maintenance, and evaluation.

3. Develops, implements, and evaluates college-wide management needs and needs regarding information systems and expanded use of computing equipment in the College's academic and administrative operations and processes.

4. Provides guidance and counsel to executive staff in the analysis and definition of objectives for existing or proposed information systems and in the design of improved systems utilizing electronic computing equipment.

5. Consults with executive staff and related personnel in areas of responsibility concerning academic and administrative issues and regarding policy, procedures, regulations, and other matters of this type.

6. Directs preparation, implementation, and installation of information technology procedures, standards, and systems and determines technical solutions to address needs in the most cost-effective manner.

7. Plans, recommends, and implements the annual departmental budget in accordance with College policies; ensures effective operations within budget.

8. Administers selection and implementation of vendor software packages and related hardware in coordination with specific user project teams; provides contract administration for technology-related contracts in areas of professional services, hardware, lease / purchases, hardware and software maintenance, technical support, and other areas; directs and monitors applications and systems performance especially regarding user up-time, response time, network performance, and capacity planning.

9. Directs, maintains, and improves operational procedures for system documentation, security, disaster recovery, and other functions.

10. Maintains professional contracts with companies, research firms, and equipment manufacturers concerning computer applications and equipment.

11. Keeps abreast of new techniques and current issues through continued education and professional growth; attends conferences, workshops, and seminars as appropriate.

  • Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in management information systems, business administration, computer science, computer engineering, or a directly related field; Master's degree is preferred.
  • Five years of management experience in information technology and a significant level of technical experience, including experience with large mainframe systems and software, background in relational databases and software management, telecommunications, advanced knowledge of NT and Unix platforms, and understanding of the Ellucian or similar technology platform.
  • Proven experience with A1 and learning technologies.
