OSA 2025 Summer Arts Academy Instructor
JOB SUMMARY
Join the dynamic and culturally rich community at Oakland School for the Arts (OSA), a distinguished charter school nestled in the heart of an urban environment, renowned for its innovative approach in merging the arts with a rigorous academic framework. Serving approximately 800 students from grades 6-12, OSA is dedicated to fostering both artistic expression and academic excellence.
OSA Summer Art Academy is seeking ten (10) dynamic instructors to lead our Summer Arts Academies. The primary responsibilities of this position are to create and implement full immersion hands on art classes for young artists ages 9-15. The ideal candidates will have extensive classroom experience and the ability to develop engaging, innovative curricula tailored to students of various skill levels. Instructors will design and implement programs that incorporate foundational skills, provide opportunities to deepen knowledge, and encourage creative exploration within the chosen medium or art form. This role involves teaching age-appropriate techniques in areas such as literature, writing, public speaking, and other artistic disciplines while fostering a safe, inclusive learning environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop curriculum that is engaging and innovative
- Instructors have the opportunity to design a curriculum for artists at various levels
- Develop and implement curriculum for the program that includes fundamental art skills, opportunities to build on existing skills and deepen knowledge of the medium/art form
- Ensure safety and proper technique of participation while in the program
- Work with people of all ages and skill levels
- At the end of each session, students will have completed a portfolio or performance to showcase the skills they have attained at OSA Summer Arts Academy
- Assist with marketing and outreach of programs
- Ensure safety and proper technique of participation while in the program
- Good communication skills; ability to explain things clearly
- Maintains records of participation
EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIREMENTS
- The ideal candidate will have a strong background and experience working within their artistic medium.
- Excellent communication and instructional skills, with the ability to explain concepts clearly.
- Creativity, adaptability, and enthusiasm for working with students of varied ages and abilities.
- Organizational skills to manage program logistics and maintain accurate records.
- Commitment to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment.

This is a limited-term, seasonal, summer-time position. Instructors can teach one or both sessions. Details of the position outlined below:
- Available Positions: Ten (10)
- Hourly Rate: $50 per hour
- Standard Work hours: 9:00AM – 3:00PM
- Work Location: Oakland School for the Arts, 530 18th St. Oakland, CA 94612
- Program Dates:
- Session One: Monday, June 2, 2025 through Friday, June 13, 2025
- Session Two: Monday, June 16, 2025 through Friday, June 27, 2025 (No session on June 19th to observe Juneteenth holiday.)
