Residential Dorm Manager
Full-Time (11 month), Exempt, Category 3
Reports To: Director of International Programs & Residential Life
Lives On-Site with Office Located in the Residential Dormitory
11 Month (2 weeks after school year ends and 2 weeks before school year begins)
Working Hours: 7AM- 3:30PM and available as needed
Position Overview:
The RDM oversees the daily operations and management of the residential life building at Oaks Christian School, with a primary strategic objective of ensuring a safe, supportive, and thriving living environment for dormitory students while fostering their personal, emotional, and social growth. The RDM does this in partnership with the dorm parents, desk staff, residential life staff, vendors, and other campus stakeholders, while reporting directly to the Director of International Programs and Residential Life to uphold the residential life vision and the school’s mission and values.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Desk Staff Coordination:
o Schedule and supervise desk staff, ensuring adequate day and night coverage.
o Update desk staff on procedural changes and daily needs.
2. Dorm Parent Support:
o Attend monthly team meetings to discuss updates, challenges, and events, and ensure that the Dorm Parent “team” is informed and working in partnership with the staff as a cohesive, highly functioning group in service to the school mission.
o Build weekday and weekend staffing schedules for dorm parents with the objectives of student safety, wellness, and risk management taken into consideration.
o Check-in daily with the dorm parent(s) to address and resolve student needs as related to daily operations.
o Review and act on all duty report notes and troubleshoot real-time challenges.
o Help facilitate wellness and risk needs with appropriate staff as needed
o Effectively communicate building/operational needs to OC facilities operational staff.
3. School/Dorm Collaboration & Partnership
o Ensure that all student safety, wellness, and risk assessment protocols are followed in the dorm.
o Collaborate with Office of Student Life, College Counseling, Arts, and Athletic Department to support coordination of student discipline, activities, and athletic/arts commitments.
o Collaborate with Dorm Parents, Manager of Host Families and ISP Student Life, International Boarding and Enrollment Manager, and all dorm support staff.
4. Operations Management:
o Coordinate with facilities and maintenance teams for day-to-day upkeep and emergency escalations.
o Ensure building safety protocols, including emergency procedures and security communication.
o Manage student room assignments, audits, cleaning, and damage reports.
o Oversee storage of student belongings and furniture inventory.
o Develop and run effective safety drills in coordination with Risk Management as necessary.
5. Health & Wellness:
o Communicate with nursing staff and the Emotional Health and Wellness team (SEL Counselors) on student health and wellness needs.
6. Events and Activities:
o Support the efforts of the Student Life Manager and the planning and execution of international student program and residential life events and activities, including all Host Family responsibilities and engagement.
7. Enrollment and Onboarding:
o Manage new student onboarding, including room assignments and expectation setting for late arrivals.
- All other enrollment and onboarding activities are the responsibility of the Manager of Host Families and ISP Student Life and the International Boarding and Enrollment Manager.
8. Data Management and Systems:
o Maintain accurate student records in Reach and AXIS, including profiles, groups, and transportation approvals (including Forms).
o Train staff on data management systems and oversee the integrity of migration data.
o Prepare reports and updates related to duty and student activities.
9. Holiday Closures:
o Prepare dormitory buildings for holiday breaks.
o Ensure adherence to checkout procedures.
o Audit School Closure Leave Requests & report any inconsistencies or discrepancies to Dorm Parents.
10. Cross Train as a back-up to the Manager of Host Families and ISP Student Life and the International Boarding and Enrollment Manager.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Preference will be considered for applicants with 3-5 years of experience in residential life management, student services, or related fields.
- Strong organizational, leadership, collaborative, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with residential management software such as AXIS and Reach is a plus.
