Basic Function and Responsibility:
The IT Technical Associate, under general supervision, will assist in managing the operational activities of Oakton's Service Center(s) and provide comprehensive technical support with a particular emphasis on audio-visual (AV) solutions. This includes overseeing and maintaining AV and other technology equipment in computer labs, classrooms, and across campus, providing excellent customer service to faculty, staff, and students, and implementing IT projects related to AV technologies. They will also supervise, train, and monitor student employees, assisting users with Information Technologies.

Light lifting up to 20 lbs. and light carrying up to 20 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-Campus and to visit off-Campus entities. Work is performed in a general office environment and is sedentary in nature. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
AV and Technology Equipment Support
- Ensure the proper functioning of technology equipment, particularly AV systems (microphones, speakers, cameras, projectors, etc.), in computer labs, classrooms, and other spaces.
- Provide customer and technical support, specifically troubleshooting AV issues and assisting with equipment setup and operation, to faculty, staff, and students.
- Collaborate with Media Services to support networked projector systems and classroom computer-based control systems.
- Coordinate technical teams, including student employees, to implement IT projects that impact end-user computing, experience, or utilization of College-provided systems and technologies, with a focus on AV installations and upgrades
- Collaborate with Media Services on projects related to video conferencing, lecture capture, and digital streaming production initiatives.
- Work with other IT team members to identify the root cause of complex technical issues, particularly those related to AV systems.
- Document and share best practices with the support team for faster resolution of future tickets, especially those involving AV support
- Identify areas for improvement in technology that can improve productivity or teaching/learning, particularly regarding AV capabilities
- Make recommendations and lead the implementation of identified solutions, providing data to help supervisors make informed decisions
- Research and be proactive in identifying problems related to enterprise systems and technologies used at the College, including AV infrastructure.
- Provide recommendations and implement solutions to mitigate identified problems
- Research new technologies, particularly those related to AV advancements, and stay current in the field of technology
- Attend workshops and conferences to acquire new knowledge that can be used to improve IT services, with a focus on enhancing AV support capabilities
Job Requirements:
Qualifications and Working Conditions:
- A Bachelor's degree including coursework in computer science and/or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is required.
- Excellent customer service skills including the skills to explain college policies and practices in difficult situations. Must have good listening skills and tact. Must have the ability to mentor subordinates.
- Courses or knowledge of academic computing systems including AV systems, Local Area Networks, current Windows server and desktop operating systems, PC hardware/peripherals, PC maintenance and troubleshooting is required.
- Knowledge and use of Windows products is required. Knowledge and use of Apple products is a highly desired.
- Three years' experience involving information technology and knowledge of various software packages in a similar environment is required.
- One-year experience with Windows server/Active Directory networks with systems administration or Active Directory administration experience is preferred.
- One-year functional supervisory experience is preferred.
