Basic Function and Responsibility:
Under general supervision, direct the operational activities and provide instructional support services in the Laboratory. This position will be performed from our Des Plaines campus and the Evanston Health Careers Education Center.

Light lifting up to 10 lbs. and light carrying up to 10 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building and Evanston Health Career Education Center. At times odors may be present.

Administrative supervision is received from the Dean of STEM.
Functional Supervision is received from the Science Laboratory Manager and Dean of Health Careers.
Supervision Exercised:
Functional supervision is exercised over two to four student employees.
SALARY: The hourly salary of this position $25.79 which equates to $51,982 annualized based on Oakton's summer hours schedule.
HOURS: Tuesday - Saturday, 8:00am - 4:45pm (Tuesday & Wednesday at the Evanston Health Careers Education Center and Thursday - Saturday at the Des Plaines campus).
Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have a hybrid schedule option available after 30 working days.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and/or direct staff and student employees in lab preparations for lab experiments.
- Review experimental procedures and equipment with lab instructors.
- Assist in coordinating lab schedules and experiments.
- Assist students and instructors as necessary.
- Develop budget requests, purchase and maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, and educational materials, examine bid specifications, and initiate request orders for supplies and equipment.
- Initiate and supervise the maintenance and repair of lab equipment and instruments and initiate requests for routine repairs of lab facilities, e.g., drains, faucets, etc.
- Maintain the safety, security and cleanliness of assigned Oakton laboratory facilities.
- Collect, organize and remove chemical wastes from the labs to a designated area. Maintain a list of chemical wastes.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's in Science with specific course work in a health career discipline and Biology or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is required.
- Two years of related lab experience with supervisory experience preferred.
- Ability to use special laboratory instruments, computers and google suite software.
- Position requires record keeping, equipment organization, and routine maintenance skills for smooth operation of laboratory activities.
- Safe handling of biohazard materials and chemicals is required at all times.
