Responsibilities
The Product Specialist Group ("PSG") is a part of Oaktree's Client Relations organization and is responsible for serving as representatives and subject matter experts for Oaktree's strategies and products.
This role will be aligned specifically to Oaktree's Value Opportunities strategy ("VOF") which is an evergreen opportunistic credit strategy. The candidate will work in close partnership with portfolio management and investment team, as well as with Oaktree's Marketing (sales) department to : (i) formulate marketing strategy and lead the fundraise effort for VOF and (ii) oversee investor relations by serving as the primary point of contact for existing VOF investors (as well as their relevant Marketing and Client Services reps globally).
Selected responsibilities include :
Product Marketing / Fundraising
- Drive marketing with an expectation that this candidate will accelerate fundraising for the strategy
- Identify prospective clients and partner with our Marketing team to strategize on prospective LP organizations that they cover
- Develop a multi-channel outreach plan, including :
Planning regular roadshows to meet with LPs, attend capital intro conferences, etc.
Working with the Corporate Communications and Branding team to create a PR and digital presenceTargeting alternative distribution channels (e.g., prime brokerage houses) in which the product can be sold / marketed but where Oaktree's Marketing organization may not be actively providing coverageMeet with prospective clients to explain and pitch the strategy / product in advance of a deeper-dive with portfolio managementSupport and / or conduct training about investment strategy and positioning for Oaktree's Marketing and / or Client Services repsUnderstand / gather intelligence / feedback concerning the market reaction to VOF and help refine the strategy's message and collateral in responseLead the design, creation and continuous improvement of fundraising-related product / strategy content for both internal and external consumption (e.g., pitch books and presentations, competitor analyses, talking points, thought pieces), includingImproving existing content or developing new materials based on industry, asset class or competitor trends
Writing and collating responses (in partnership with Oaktree Diligence Services) to client and prospect RFPs, due diligence questionnaires and other inquiriesLearning compliance and related industry advertising rules to assist in the creation of compliant contentProduct Investor Relations / Client Servicing
Craft and create product / strategy commentary or investment performance commentary, including for monthly fund reports, quarterly letters and in response to client inquiriesServe as a subject matter expert for the strategy, including in respect of our philosophy and approach, markets and areas of focus, primary competitors, portfolio composition and individual investments, performance, etc.Lead / participate in product-related investor calls and meetings, including portfolio reviews, fund webcasts, etc.Prepare standard content (e.g., brochures and portfolio review materials) and custom presentations to be used with investors during update meetings, at client conferences, etc.Work with Corporate Communications and Branding team to identify and deliver relevant programming initiatives that help to raise brand awareness for the strategy through key industry conferences and events including Oaktree's bi-annual client conferenceProduct Development
Work closely with marketing representatives, investment professionals and other internal stakeholders to research, propose and implement new product ideas, bespoke client solutions or new investor channels for product distributionContribute to internal materials or analysis for new productsResearch and prepare analysis regarding competitive landscape or precedent case studiesQualifications
7-10 years of relevant experience in a product / investment specialist, client relations or marketing role;Deep understanding of alternative credit investing and credit hedge funds with experience in distressed debt and special situations investment strategies;Familiarity with hedge fund performance metrics (e.g., annualized time-weighted returns, Sharpe ratio, etc.);Ability to acquire thorough knowledge of the legal, accounting, compliance and investment aspects of the investment products offered by Oaktree;Highly resourceful; ability to exercise superior judgment regarding investor requests : to interpret them, ask appropriate questions, do homework, and only expend internal resources of the firm for the most relevant, needed situations;Proven ability to interact directly with clients, portfolio managers and senior leadership; must demonstrate a high service-orientation;Experience operating a function and / or designing or improving processes;Fluency with MS Office suite for creating client-facing and internal deliverables;Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and working collaboratively as part of a team;Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.Personal Attributes

Bachelor's degree (major in Finance, Business, Marketing, Communications or related field preferred). MBA, CFA or other recognized advanced credentials a plus
