Job Description
The Veterinary Assistant / Technician provides support to the veterinarians and technicians in their daily tasks by cleaning and maintaining equipment, feeding, exercising, and grooming patients. They also prepare and sanitize surgery suites, restrain and handle patients, and perform clerical and administrative work.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate care to all patients
- Greet patients and their owners, taking vital signs upon arrival
- Triage patients, perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medication as directed
- Assist doctors and technicians with patient restraint and medication administration
- Perform laboratory tests and radiographs
- Operate and maintain hospital equipment
- Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, and maintain proper documentation
- Feed patients, record appetites, and report unusual conditions or abnormal behaviors
- Communicate positively with clients and ensure they feel comfortable leaving their pets
- Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and medicinal plans
- Maintain hospital cleanliness, clean equipment, kennels, and facilities using chemicals and supplies
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One or more years' experience in a veterinary environment
- Vet Tech (VTNE) Certification preferred
- Experience with surgical monitoring, radiology, dental prophylaxis, and client education preferred

The Veterinary Assistant / Technician works in a fast-paced hospital environment, interacting with patients, clients, and staff. The position requires flexibility with scheduling, including weekends and holidays.
