What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Studies Teacher position at Oakwood School?
- Bachelor’s degree in History, Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies, or another Social Science discipline required; Master’s degree or doctorate preferred, as is a specialization in a region of the world outside of the United States or Western Europe.
- Three to five years of experience teaching in a high school setting, preferably working with 9th and/or 10th grade students.
- Experience teaching reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development in both subject matter and progressive educational methodology.
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice.
- Plans, prepares, and executes developmentally supportive social studies lessons in accordance with Oakwood’s Social Studies department learning outcomes.
- Collaborate with fellow Social Studies teachers in designing and developing curriculum.
- Commitment to our DEIB values and goals as stated in our DEIB mission statement.
- Maintains regular communication with student-support team members: parents, teachers, student services, deans, and other administrators and updates an organized assignment calendar and gradebook in Oakwood School’s learning management system.
- Constructively contributes to department and faculty meetings, as well as parent conferences; engages in regular communication with parents and administrators; and performs occasional supervisory duties.
