Position: Reentry Case Manager

General Definition and Conditions of Work:
This position provides reentry services to defendants and offenders in the 16th Judicial District of Virginia and to various local prisons. Work is performed under the supervision of the Reentry Program Manager, Assistant Director and Executive Director.
Work involves risk to personal safety due to close contact with the offender population in a community corrections setting. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment. This is primarily sedentary work requiring the ability to type and operate a computer. Vocal communication and the ability to convey information and or detailed instructions accurately, loudly, and quickly is required. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word level. Visual acuity is necessary to analyze written or computer data and to observe general surroundings and activities.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks will include:
1. Takes the lead position in implementing the Transition from Jail to Community Project in collaboration with Central Virginia Regional Jail.
2. Attend meetings with community partners and Reentry Councils.
3. Provides intake and case management for a caseload of transitional and reentry services clients in accordance with all of the performance measures as described by OAR and by all funding sources.
4. Responsible for monthly caseload statistical performance reports.
5. Facilitate cognitive behavioral groups in a correctional and office setting.
6. Maintain a current list of community resources and contact persons to facilitate offender placement where appropriate.
7. Provide job readiness, life skills and ongoing positive reinforcement for job skill development to offenders both pre and post incarceration in partnership with the Employment Specialist.
8. Coordinate emergency services for offenders with demonstrated need.
9. Coordinate offender services with State Probation and Parole, Local Probation, Pretrial, Piedmont House, Charlottesville/Albemarle Regional Jail, Central Virginia Regional Jail and Drug Court.
10. Maintain offender files and computer database management system with the standards set by OAR and Program Manager.
11. Adapt, modify and change in accordance to “best practices” as they are implemented within OAR-Jefferson Area Community Corrections.
12. Treat all people with respect and display a professional demeanor that is conducive to motivating the offender to change.
13. Share responsibility with all staff for the successful operation of this agency.
14. Represent OAR-Jefferson Area Community Corrections positively in public at all times.
15. Perform related tasks as required with an ability to share responsibility for departmental duties in the absence of team members.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Possess specific knowledge of reentry services, community corrections and evidence based practices. Possess general knowledge of the criminal justice system, probation, law enforcement etc. Possess general knowledge of human behavior, social science and rehabilitative techniques and objectives. Possess the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with the courts, local jails, treatment providers, attorneys, law enforcement, clients, victims, families and the general public. Possess the ability to establish and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with coworkers, administrative and management staff. Possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to learn and apply new techniques and skills as trained. Ability to utilize a computer, email, word processing and database management system.
Education and Experience:
College degree preferred, but will hire applicants with any combination of experience in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, counseling or some related field. Demonstrated proficiency (positive performance evaluation) and knowledge base of community corrections and jail operations. Demonstrates a willingness and ability to accept more responsibility and duties. Ability to share some responsibility for departmental duties with Program Manager and Project Coordinator
Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid driver’s license. Possess means of transportation to meet the necessary job requirements. Able to be admitted into correctional facilities.
Must meet and maintain the minimum qualifications for the position established by OAR and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Pay: $39,868.00 per year
