Performs all forms of respiratory care. Administers various respiratory medications in the treatment in acute and chronic breathing abnormalities. Implement, operates, and monitors various types of therapeutic support equipment. Performs diagnostic pulmonary, EEG, and cardiac testing. Performs Home Sleep Set ups/downloads.
Essential Functions & Performance Standards
- Determines most appropriate method of delivering prescribed therapy following precautions, monitoring, and documenting for clinical effectiveness.
- Confers with patient and family explaining treatment(s), medications, and therapeutic goals.
- Institute various monitoring equipment (non-invasive and invasive) to assess pulse oximetry, end-tidal carbon dioxide, and arterial blood gases.
- Provide feedback to the patient’s physician and nursing staff concerning patient’s progress/goals and adjust therapy as appropriate.
- Attends and assists with cesarean and high-risk vaginal deliveries.
- Practice and understand how to perform advanced airway procedures such as laryngeal mask airway and endotracheal intubation.
- Able to pick up PRN/open shifts requested by manager.
Experience:
- One to two (2) years respiratory therapy experience in a hospital setting preferred or equivalent.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (must be certified before being scheduled for patient care),
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (must be certified within 3 months of hire date).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (must be certified within 3 months of hire date)
- Neonatal Resuscitation course completion (must be completed within 3 months of hire date).
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Able to tactfully communicate with patients, families, and other personnel.
- Must possess good time management and organizational skills and clinical judgement.
- Maintaining equipment required to perform respiratory therapy procedures. Including inspection for operational functionality and safety.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care
- Certified Respiratory Technician (CRT) or Registry eligible, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
- Current American Heart Association BLS Health Care Provider certification and ACLS required; must be able to physically perform CPR.
- Current respiratory therapy licensure by the State of Indiana.
