SUMMARY:
The Bone Density Technician is a supportive position to the Practice, providing administrative and supportive services to the Providers, staff, and patients. This position reports to the Mammography Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Greet and educate patients about the bone density scan procedure.
- Position patients correctly for optimal imaging results.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort during the exam.
- Operate and maintain DXA scanning equipment.
- Perform bone density scans of the spine, hip, forearm, or whole body as required.
- Adjust equipment settings for accuracy and patient-specific factors.
- Record and analyze bone density results.
- Ensure accurate measurement and documentation of scan results.
- Collaborate with radiologists or physicians to review findings.
- Follow radiation safety protocols and ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain and calibrate DXA equipment regularly.
- Keep accurate patient records and ensure HIPAA compliance.
- Schedule appointments and manage patient records.
- Assist in billing and insurance documentation as needed.
- Participate in continuing education to stay updated on best practices and technology advancements.
- Consistently demonstrates internal and external quality customer service standards to all that request assistance, responding in a professional manner.
- Other duties as assigned.

This position requires no supervisory responsibilities.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role uses mammography machines and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines.
Occupational Exposure:
Category 1 Has a high risk of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens
Category 2 Has a moderate risk of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens
Category 3 Has a low risk of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.
Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.
Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
Other: Requires frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting up to 25 pounds, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.

- Must have at least a high school education or equivalent; an associate degree in radiologic technology or a related field is preferred.
- Certification in bone densitometry is preferred
- Prior experience in radiology, medical imaging, or DXA scanning is beneficial.
