Job Description:
Title- Clinical Supervisor
Reports to- Executive Director
Roles:
The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for delivery of patient care under the supervision of the patient’s physician and for the supervision of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and medical office assistants working in the medical office setting.
Registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and medical office assistants will report in a matrix relationship to the Clinical Supervisor and the team members' assigned physician or mid-level provider.
The physician and the medical assistant have a close working relationship. The physician or mid-level will be responsible for supervision of clinical team members in the following ways:
- Providing the clinical direction of assigned Medical Assistant working under the provider’s license for injections, prescriptions, and protocols for patient care.
- Assessment and monitoring of assigned clinical team members clinical acumen, adherence to agreed protocols, agreed clinical workflow as directed by the provider and observed patient interactions.
- Jointly participate in staff evaluations / reviews for the assigned team members.
To be successful, the clinical supervisor:
· Exhibits expertise in OB/GYN and has the ability to guide the clinical staff through many changes in the delivery of health care and foster a team atmosphere.
· Can effectively manage an increasing volume of patients with providing quality patient care in a customer friendly environment.
· Will work closely with Physicians and other members of the health care team in the matrix organizational design.
· Will act as a leader for all patient care issues in the medical office setting.
Human Resource and Staff Development
· Prepares clinical schedules, manages vacation requests, time off requests and arranges appropriate coverage.
· Develops the clinical staff to achieve a high standard of practice including assessment, corrective actions and coaching as needed. This includes the management of competency testing for injections, vitals, labs, and others as developed.
· In concert with the Executive Director, develops and administers the annual evaluation system based on established standards of office clinical practice.
· Interviews with the Executive Director, other members of leadership and the applicant nurses and medical office assistants.
· Recommends to the Providers and the Executive Director, promotions and changes in staffing.
· Develops and teaches nursing telephone triage procedures and provider notification.
· Plans and implements clinical orientation and educational programs. Encourages staff to review literature and share information learned at conferences.
· Instructs and monitors medical office assistants in obtaining accurate vital statistics, medication list, personal and family history, problem list and other pertinent patient visit history and accurately charting during the interview process in a timely manner.
· Instructs and monitors staff to perform a variety of tests and assisting the providers in all procedures.
· Instructs and monitors clinical staff to give accurate injections and accurate record keeping.
· Ensures that clinical staff are properly trained to perform excellent patient care, education/teaching.
· Ensures that all clinical staff has the knowledge and capability to respond to a medical emergency in the office setting.
Clinical Practice Operation
· Delivers patient care and to act as a role model for clinical staff.
· Either directly or primarily through staff, evaluate and triage patients; provide emergency medical treatments, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and first aid required to stabilize a patient's condition until a physician can be consulted or patient is transferred to a higher level of care.
· Either directly or primarily through staff, maintain accurate records documenting all physical findings, diagnoses, and treatments, including medications and changes in health status; prepare written reports, records, and summaries under the supervision of a provider
· Provide health related education and training to staff.
· Either directly or primarily through staff, ensures that patient flow is smooth and uninterrupted with an emphasis on assisting providers to move through their schedule in a timely manner.
· Ensures that examination rooms are stocked with proper supplies through the clinical team.
· Ensures that medications and injectables are properly stocked, stored and dispensed through the clinical team.
· Ensure that patients are treated in a friendly, caring and confidential manner with an emphasis on patient satisfaction. Maintains good public relations with patients and families.
· Either directly or primarily through staff, ensures that charting in the medical record is accurate and neat for their own encounters and for the patients in their care in Electronic Medical Record
· Either directly or primarily through staff, works with the business office to ensure that the medical record is in good order for that day’s visit for billing purposes.
· Either directly or primarily through staff, maintains an environment that meets infection control guidelines and environmental safety guidelines through the nursing team.
· Inventory management of clinical supplies, drugs and devices either directly or through staff. Includes ordering, price and quality assessment.
· Perform related duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
· Develops policies and procedures and enforces and monitors compliance of the policies
· Maintaining and developing ongoing quality assurance as appropriate.
· Promotes communication among the clinical team through routinely scheduled meetings.
· Ensures that all medical equipment is in good working order.
· Either directly or primarily through staff, ensures that the autoclave testing is performed properly and timely, documenting testing results and dates.
· Either directly or primarily through staff, maintain and monitor required refrigerator logs
· Keeps the Providers and Executive Director informed regarding clinical staff issues, plans and progress.
· Ensures that clinical staff are informed and trained to participate in all aspects of managed care insurance programs.

Working Conditions

Qualifications: Ob/Gyn office experience preferred with the ability to demonstrate proficiency and understanding of the complete functions of an Ob/Gyn office in a customer friendly fast paced team environment. Additionally, must be able to effectively use our practice management system / Electronic medical record. Must have high school diploma or equivalent, 4 years of advanced education/ bachelor’s degree preferred, but experience maybe substituted.
Detailed knowledge of: documentation process, clinical workflow for the physicians
Working knowledge of: human anatomy and current medical terminology; medical and diagnoses and practices, methods and medication protocols medical diagnosis and treatment of; universal precautions and infection control techniques and procedures; operation and use of standard medical equipment; electronic medical record protocols and ability to teach the same to staff.
Ability to: Interview patients to elicit information concerning illness and health and medical history, symptoms and/or complaints; provide patient education and counseling; prepare and maintain medical records, charts and reports; maintain patient confidentiality; develop and maintain effective working relationships with medical colleagues, preceptor and patients; deal effectively with personnel and staffing issues; delegate and follow-up on appropriate assignments to subordinate staff.

Salary: This position's pay range is $26.04/hr to start, and up to the top out of $36.46/hr based on experience and longevity with our company.
