Ob Hospitalist Job Description
As part of the Ob Hospitalist Group (OBHG) clinical team, an Ob Hospitalist will focus on delivering quality care that is evidence-based and consistent with OBHG's core values.
Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, the following essential duties must be satisfied:
- Remain abreast of changes in medical evidence and apply relevant changes to medical practice.
- Deliver obstetrical and gynecological care to patients including but not limited to providing contraceptive services at hospitals that provide these services.
- Ensure consistent performance of clinical services in accordance with program definition.
- Deliver direct patient care to high-risk patients, including situations where Maternal Fetal Medicine support may only be available by telephone or video consultation.
- Participate in the development of clinical guidelines and protocols at the assigned site.
- Ensure that practice consistently conforms to hospital guidelines, policies, and protocols.
- Ensure that delivery of care is consistent with OBHG core values.
- Participate in peer reviews or investigation of clinical incidents as requested.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure hospitalist participation in overall quality initiatives.
- Ensure daily in-person handoffs between clinicians using a standard format.
- Participate daily in Labor and Delivery board rounds.
- Participate in clinical drills.
- Collaborate with OBHG's quality department as requested.
- Collaborate with OBHG Certified Nurse Midwives if present at the assigned site.
- Complete required educational courses, such as ACLS, BLS, NRP, and FHR training.
- Complete required corporate training.

- Ensure that patient encounters meet the needs of the patient and their family.
- Treat others with respect and courtesy.
- Ensure timely response to calls/pages.
- Serve as the Safety Officer on Labor and Delivery to ensure that all patients have the safest possible outcomes.
- Support community physicians and midwives through clinical assistance as requested, including practice coverage as requested and as safely available.
- Participate in hospital meetings, such as department meetings, peer review, and quality improvement.
- Active involvement in the daily activities of the labor and delivery unit.
- Reinforce the clinical aspects of OBHG's value proposition at the hospital.
- Collaborate with Site Director of Ob Hospitalists, Market Medical Director, Medical Director of Operations, and Director of Operations to ensure that clinical services meet hospital objectives and expectations.
- Arrive on time for assigned coverage periods.
- Work with the team to ensure 100% schedule coverage at the assigned site.
Fiscal Stewardship
The following responsibilities are essential to ensuring fiscal stewardship:
- Ensure that patients are seen in a timely fashion.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the medical record; all charting must be completed by the end of the assigned shift.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion and submission of billing information by the end of the assigned shift.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of requested quality data.
- Collaborate with the hospital and team to deliver care that efficiently utilizes healthcare resources.
- Communicate regularly with Site Director of Ob Hospitalists to discuss program concerns or opportunities.
Qualifications
The following qualifications are essential:
- Board Certified or Active Candidate Ob/Gyn Physician.
- Licensed to practice medicine in the state of the assigned site.
- Highly relational, able to build strong rapport and positive working relationships with all stakeholders.
- Team-oriented, service-minded, goal-focused individual who believes in OBHG's mission.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Mental & Physical Demands
The following physical demands are associated with this position:
- Sitting for long periods of time.
- Position also requires walking, standing, stooping, or kneeling.
- Regularly required to use computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone.
- Lift and carry objects such as books and files weighing up to 15 pounds.
- Close vision work and ability to adjust focus.
