Job Summary
The Archives Student Assistant will assist the Oberlin College Archives staff in the day-to-day activities of the Archives. Applicants will learn to understand levels of control in archival arrangement and description on the job, including assisting in the migration of the Archives' digital records
This position will begin in the Spring 2025 semester and will continue into the Fall 2025 semester.
Hours available for work are Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-noon and 1:00 PM-4:30 PM.
Responsibilities
The Archives Student Assistant will work with the Archives Staff to perform tasks to support the Archives. The student assistant will perform a variety of duties as assigned, including scanning, preparing inventories, migrating digital records by reviewing and editing finding guides, processing collections, shifting materials, filing, setting up exhibits, and photocopying.
Qualifications
Experience with word processing, Excel or Google sheets and the use of library search tools. Familiarity with archival finding guides/aids or archival research is desired.
Applicants should also have good to excellent writing and research skills, and an ability to work both independently and in a team-approach setting. An interest in Oberlin College history and an excitement in participating in the preservation of Oberlin's "memory" are desired.
