THIS IS A CONTRACT ROLE

Object Construction is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Carpenter with experience in the scenic industry. The Carpenter will be responsible for constructing, fabricating, and installing various structures and set pieces according to precise specifications. This role requires strict adherence to safety protocols, physical fitness, and a commitment to quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Blueprints and Drawings: Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to fully understand project requirements and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Measurements and Materials: Accurately measure and calculate the required amount of materials for each project, ensuring minimal waste.
  • Fabrication: Safely cut, shape, and smooth lumber and other materials using hand and power tools, adhering to all safety guidelines and industry standards.
  • Construction: Build flats, platforms, window frames, doors, staircases, furniture, cabinets, and shelves, and install them as designated, ensuring structural integrity and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Maintenance: Inspect, repair, and maintain constructed pieces to ensure longevity and safety, addressing any potential hazards immediately.
  • Scaffolding: Build scaffolding and other construction structures, including rigging, while working at various heights. Follow all safety protocols to prevent falls and injuries.
  • Organization: Maintain clean, organized, and tidy workspaces and tools to minimize accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Logistics: Pack, wrap, load, and unload scenery and materials safely, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage or injury.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in carpentry, particularly in the scenic industry. Must have hands-on experience in construction and fabrication.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading blueprints and shop drawings, and in using electrical and manual carpentry tools (e.g., saws, hammers, squares). Must be knowledgeable about OSHA guidelines and other relevant safety standards.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs regularly. The role requires standing, kneeling, and working in physically demanding positions for extended periods.
  • Safety: Commitment to following all safety guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to OSHA standards. Knowledge of first aid and emergency procedures is preferred.
  • Tools: Must own and maintain a personal tool kit, including essential tools like a hammer, drill, measuring tools, pry bar, and more, ensuring they are in safe working order.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication with team members, site managers, and clients is essential to ensure clarity and prevent misunderstandings that could lead to accidents or errors.
  • Additional Skills: Forklift operation skills are a plus but not required. Must be adaptable and able to respond to changing project requirements and deadlines.

Work Environment:

  • The Carpenter will work in both indoor and outdoor environments, often in varying weather conditions. The role may involve working at heights, in confined spaces, and with hazardous materials.
