Position Overview
Obra Capital is looking to hire an Associate , Tax Compliance, Reporting, & Planning in our New York office. Reporting directly to the Tax Director (Head of Tax), the successful candidate will assist in overseeing all aspects of U.S. tax compliance, reporting, and planning for our growing organization and the investment funds it serves — spanning hedge, private equity, credit, longevity, insurance, reinsurance, real estate, and other strategies.
Responsibilities
- Assist with managing the timely and accurate preparation, review, filing, and delivery of thousands of tax returns annually, including K-1s and other federal, state, local, and international filings, with respect to more than 100 entities and 3,000 investors.
- Identify opportunities for tax optimization, planning, and efficiency improvements, while maintaining compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations.
- Stay abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations that may impact the company's tax obligations, advising senior management on potential challenges, risks, and opportunities.
- Collaborate with other departments, including Accounting, Finance, Legal, Operations, and Portfolio Management to ensure alignment and integration of tax considerations with overall business objectives.
- Build and maintain relationships with external tax service providers, auditors, tax authorities, and other relevant stakeholders, representing the company's interests and ensuring effective communication and cooperation.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and lead on complex, challenging, novel, and recurring tax matters, providing guidance and support to internal stakeholders and external partners as needed.
- Attention to transaction details, trial balances, account-detail analysis, and other necessary information requested by external tax return preparers.
- Evaluate anticipated tax-accounting impacts of various elections and potential elections; and monitor relevant thresholds on an ongoing basis.
- Assist in preparing quarterly and year-end taxable income projections for corporations and partnerships; and year-end tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740.
- Assist with tax audits, prepare responses to notices (including with respect to SALT), and respond to other tax-related inquiries from governmental authorities and investors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field; CPA or advanced degree (e.g., MST) is a plus.
- 2 – 5 years of progressive experience in tax accounting and consulting, involving compliance, reporting, transaction analysis, and planning, preferably within a public accounting firm or large financial services company.
- Technical knowledge of U.S. and international tax laws and regulations, including with both corporations and partnerships, and involving disparate investors (e.g., U.S., non-U.S., tax-exempts, SWFs, treaty claimants).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze complex tax issues, develop solutions, and communicate directly with non-tax professionals and senior management.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, while adjusting priorities as needed and maintaining attention to detail.
- Desire to quickly learn new areas of tax as the business evolves.

The expected base salary range for this role is outlined below. In addition to the base salary, total compensation may include a discretionary bonus based on performance. This range reflects a variety of factors, including years of relevant experience, education, and other qualifications pertinent to the position.
$100,000 - $130,000

Salary : $100,000 - $130,000
