What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sports and News Reporter position at Observer Media Group?
Are you an accomplished photographer and an up-and-coming sports and news writer? Can you move comfortably from a city council meeting to a high school football sideline and unearth the compelling story at both? Are you a self-motivated writer and photographer with a penchant for community journalism? Do you understand how print, web and social media all work together to provide readers unique and inspiring content?
If so, then the Observer Media Group has an opening on its award-winning, dynamic staff. This primary role of this position is to plan and execute our weekly sports section, which covers local prep, youth and community teams. Our sports section has garnered numerous awards for its storytelling and photography, and it consistently wins Best Sports Section honors from the Florida Press Association. We need someone with the ambition and talent to continue that level of excellence.
In addition to sports, this position also will include some writing and photography in other sections of our papers.
The ideal candidate has experience and demonstrated excellence in photography and reporting. If you have passion, vision and a knack for innovation, we want to talk to you. If you want to be part of a growing media organization that ranks among the top newspaper companies in the country, this position is for you.
Observer Media Group’s Orange County bureau includes two weekly community newspapers, the West Orange Times & Observer and the Southwest Orange Observer; a community magazine, Baldwin Park Living; a website, OrangeObserver.com; and accompanying social-media platforms. Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience. Full benefits are included. Interested applicants should send portfolios via email to Editor and Publisher Michael Eng, meng@orangeobserver.com.
