Specialized Experience GS-5: One year of specialized experience which includes experience receiving, routing, processing, and dispatching incoming and outgoing personal and accountable mail. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. Add the two percentages.
Specialized Experience GS-6: One year of specialized experience which includes working with postal services to include but not limited to, inspecting, sorting and assisting with distribution of incoming and outgoing mail for mail operations. - This is a developmental position; duties listed below will be performed in a developmental capacity at the GS-05 grade level. At the full performance, GS-06, the incumbent will:
- Receives official mail and distribution from customers. Reviews, sorts, and places mail into customer mail bins. Mail is addressed in a variety of ways requiring association of names, room numbers, building numbers, acronyms, and office symbols.
- Serves as a Mail Inspector with responsibility for technical inspections of mail rooms, conducting postal instruction and training, and providing the liaison, guidance, and assistance to customers.
- Serves as primary postal instructor, presenting a monthly 4 1/2-hour block of instruction to newly assigned unit mail clerks and mail orderlies.
- Operates a sedan, van or pick-up up to 3/4 ton daily in the delivery and collection of distribution, mail and other material between OMDC, the Fort Wainwright postal facility and/or other points, including FedEx and UPS drop points.
Conditions of Employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a T3 Secret clearance.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and annually thereafter for the lifting requirement of up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license to operate government vehicle.
- Temporary duty travel (TDY) may be required approximately 5% of the time.
