GENERAL SUPERVISOR
POSITION SUMMARY
The Molecular Microbiology General Supervisor will oversee day-to-day laboratory operations, supervise some laboratory staff, perform testing on patient specimens, and ensure adherence to all applicable compliance requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fulfill General Supervisor duties in a clinical molecular infectious disease laboratory
- Process patient specimens using a real-time PCR platform
- Data analysis and reporting of test results
- Perform equipment maintenance according to manufacturer specifications
- Prepare general laboratory reagents
- Monitor QA/QC records and ensure inspection readiness at all times
- Coordinate with Laboratory Director and Technical Supervisor
- Supervise laboratory staff
- Adhere and ensure laboratory staff are adhering to OSHA, HIPAA, and other safety practices
- Identify and report unsafe equipment, conditions and practices so that they may be corrected prior to an incident
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Familiarity with CLIA/CAP/COLA regulatory requirements
- Comprehensive understanding of PCR workflow and molecular diagnostics principles
- Organized and can work independently
- Microsoft Office
- LIS/LIMS experience required
- Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to supervise a team of employees
CLIA QUALIFICATIONS OPTIONS (42 CFR 4931461)
- Qualified laboratory director or technical supervisor of high complexity testing.
- MD, DO, or DPM
- Doctorate, master's or bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical lab science or medical technology and 1 year lab training/experience in high complexity testing.
- Associate degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical lab science or medical laboratory technology and 2 years lab training/experience in high complexity testing.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 1-2 two years of experience in a molecular CLIA licensed clinical laboratory
- Ability to read and comprehend English and follow instructions
- Good communication and critical thinking skills
- Understanding of statistics
- Ability to creatively think under pressure and handle high stress levels, changing environments, and possible irregular work hours
- Ability to recognize potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and/or hazardous chemicals in the workplace and execute safety protocols in the event of exposure or spill
- Must be able to demonstrate competency for all required diagnostic tests and other areas of assignment within 3 months of hire date
