Job Summary
Maintains the Practice's medical records according to established guidelines and requirements. Reviews records for compliance with approved policies.
Relationships
• Reports to: Clerical Team Leader/ASC Director/Nurse Administrator
Qualifications
• High school graduate required
• Working knowledge of medical terminology required
• Medical records experience preferred
• Word processing skills preferred
Mental Demands
• Requires constant and frequent judgment and response
• Requires language skills adequate for written, verbal, and telephone communication
Physical Demands
• Requires visual and auditory acuity adequate for frequent use of word processing and transcription equipment
• Ability to sit for long periods, overhead and low reaching, bending, desk and office activities
• Ability to exert force of up to 10 lbs. constantly
Occupational Exposure
• Category III exposure to blood-borne pathogens; may encounter chemical hazards
Essential Functions and Objectives
1. Supports the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Practice.
2. Adheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities.
3. Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
4. Maintains and promotes professional competence through continuing education and other learning experiences.
5. Manages the medical records filing system according to Practice policy.
6. Assists with other Practice activities as needed.
7. Contributes to the progress and development of the organization's adopted Quality Management Program.
8. Exhibits qualities of an effective Team Member.
Additional Responsibilities
• Collects data and prepares OESC medical records QM report each quarter
• Maintains and controls the release of information to authorized persons only
• Prepares records or correspondence according to Facility needs
• Compiles records and selected patient charts for review as requested in preparation for Medicare/AAAHC inspections
• Works closely with Patient Care Coordinator and part-time clerical team member in the preparation and breakdown of minor surgical charts and other duties as assigned
• Orders and maintains stock of office supplies and other OESC supplies, as needed
