A Lead Preschool Teacher is responsible for the general supervision and management of a class of preschool aged children; planning and executing the educational program in accordance with the purpose and goals of the preschool. We expect Lead Preschool Teachers to be educated, kind, loving, fun, professional and creative. Lead Preschool Teachers should instill a love of learning in their students, and focus on helping each individual student learn at his or her own pace. Lead teachers should be reliable and independent.

Qualifications:

  • Lead Preschool teachers must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, especially in the field of early childhood education and /or child development.
  • Lead Preschool Teachers must meet the requirements of licensing agencies and accrediting organizations (45 hours DCF training as well as minimum Early Learning Coalition requirements: CDA/FCCPC, AA/AS in early childhood or proof of staff credential)
  • Lead Preschool teachers must be able to work effectively with multiple staff members, balance and prioritize multiple requests.
  • Lead Preschool Teachers must be sensitive to the needs of young children and familiar with early childhood.

Responsibilities of Lead Preschool Teacher shall include, but not limited to the following:

  • Plan daily activities and lesson that correspond with the curriculum.
  • Help students learn classroom procedures.
  • Help students learn personal responsibility and respect for fellow students.
  • Use appropriate behavior management and classroom discipline.
  • Monitor classroom behavior, recognize and adapt to problems.
  • Supervise all activities to ensure safety at all times.
  • Maintain progress records of each child’s growth and development to review with Director and parents.
  • Work with parents to promote understanding of their child’s growth and development; encourage parents to participate in school programs.
  • Conduct regular formal and/or informal parent/teacher conferences on each child’s school adjustment, classroom behavior, and developmental progress.
  • Order necessary supplies according to an established budget.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings.
  • Attend training as necessary.
  • Supervise upkeep of all education equipment and materials in assigned area.
  • Effectively train, supervise, and utilize classroom assistants and primary floaters.
  • Create and distribute monthly snack calendar.

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to:

  • Lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Repetitive bending, stretching, and stooping.
  • Have mobility required to ensure the safety of the children.
  • Work with children on the floor.
  • Work outdoors in any variety of weather.
  • Fully capable to have visual hearing capabilities consistent with licensing safety requirements.
  • Perform light duty cleaning.
  • Light typing and word processing.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $18.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
