OSI is a private, non-profit organization serving individuals with intellectual, developmental, and mental health challenges in vocational training and placement programs. The Production Manager at OSI is key to ensuring our individuals have work and are able to earn a paycheck while developing their employability skills. The work schedule is generally 40 hours per week with no mandatory overtime, no weekends, and no holidays. Evening work would only be about once per month to attend Chamber of Commerce events, meetings, etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure a safe work environment and behaviors for all team members using risk identification, mitigation and competence development. Inform senior management and the Safety Committee of deficiencies or issues that need to be addressed.
- Work with clients with disabilities in support of employment training and work.
- Responsible for the collective completion of work performed by clients in all centers. The position encompasses all of the relevant functions associated with this work, both rehabilitative and production oriented.
- Assist Production Manager from Redwood in supervising a team of Production Supervisors in meeting production needs, while supporting work and training opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
- Act as backup in the absence of Production Manager, Production Assistant, Floor Supervisor, Driver, or any other production department position, as assigned. Move between Redwood and Industrial as needed.
- Assist the Redwood Production Manager to assess new work opportunities, perform time studies, and establish pricing as assigned.
- Work with supervisors and clients to ensure that skills are developed to support work available and increase the capacity/output from production.
- Assure that all work centers in the facility are ready to operate when the client workday begins. Have work set up for all centers processing of work. Obtain materials/supplies from warehouse as needed.
- Provide quality inspection and ensure that inspection process meets customer quality needs.
- Provide backup for shipping receiving at Redwood, especially in the area of shipping document preparation, records, sales order and invoice process.
- Understand the process supporting databases on time studies, pricing, customer contracts, and any other information necessary for Department of Labor (DOL) or operations.
- Support and enforce overall company programs, policies, and procedures.
- Responsible for unloading OSI trucks/vehicles, freight company, and vendor/customer trucks and/or overseeing the same as performed by the truck driver or other staff working in the shipping/receiving area. Drive trucks and make pick up and deliveries as necessary. Use of forklifts, hydraulic jacks, hand carts and other equipment will be required.
- Responsible for receiving inbound shipments of direct materials, customer owned materials, and other shipments to OSI. Responsible for receipt verification, supporting inventory transactions, movements, and storage as needed in the facility. Should be aware of all jobs in process and where inventories are to be found. Maintain records for inbound materials and supplies.
- Assess performance, competencies, and flexibility of employees within the department and provide input to the department manager with regard to appropriate training, counselling, or corrective action to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of the employees.
- Anticipate and react to any issues that could affect performance. Ensure problems are reported, root causes identified and appropriate actions plans implemented.
- Maintain ODP, DOL, and OSHA required training and certifications, including forklift certification and DOT driver certification. Maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: An associate degree with three years work experience in industry OR a high school diploma with a minimum of four years work experience in industry with two years supervisory experience included or a comparable combination of experience and education. Customer service skills essential. Experience with the use of computers and pertinent software to monitor completion of work and sales. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Must be insurable under OSI’s vehicle insurance policy. Ability to obtain and maintain DOT certificate.
