What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fleet Mechanic position at Occupational Training Center?
- Assesses vehicles and accurately diagnoses operational problems and makes corrective actions on vans, buses and wheelchair lifts.
- Ensures test measurement and diagnostic equipment meets calibration requirements. Reports what parts are needed to complete maintenance repairs.
- Performs both routine maintenance and specialized repairs. This can range from changing oil, replacing filters, rotating tires, checking fluid levels and replacing worn parts such as brake pads, wheel bearing and sensors to more complex tasks like repairing electrical systems or addressing engine malfunctions.
- Provides routine inspections of vehicles to identify problematic areas including but not limited to exterior and interior lighting, wiper blades, tire tread, engine drive belt, air filter, spark plugs, fluid levels, leaks, battery testing, radiator hoses. Maintains and follows a preventative maintenance schedule for all vehicles.
- Performs repairs to manufacturer specifications. Addresses any vehicle recalls immediately. Corrects necessary faults to pass state inspection.
- Communicates with Fleet Manager and Supervisors any maintenance concerns and explains necessary repairs. Discusses costly repairs, vehicle damage and need for replacement vehicles with management BEFORE proceeding with further action.
- Performs road service and off-site maintenance when needed. During road service calls must be prepared to assist with offloading and reloading special need clients and transport to their residence, if necessary.
- Assists Fleet Manager in the planning, organization and coordination of fleet operations.
- Relays accurate information about all work performed. This includes progress on work orders and supplies and parts needed.
- Follows all safety procedures and protocols.
- Supports the implementation of fleet safety programs and ensures compliance with relevant regulations.
- Adheres to company work safety policies, ensuring a safe working environment by maintaining a clean garage and ensuring all equipment and tools are kept in a safe and usable condition.
- Has a working knowledge of use and disposal of hazardous materials.
*Willingly and effectively cooperates with OTC, the Department of Human Services, the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), and other licensing or state agency or local municipalities in any inspections and investigations, upon request
