The ideal candidate will have the following:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Public contact experience that provided the opportunity to develop and demonstrate strong customer service skills
- Experience in efficiently using a computer and accurately entering data
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Experience in making decisions within the scope of responsibility; a record of good judgment and problem-solving skills (preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment (preferred)
- Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance (preferred)
- Knowledge of Medicare and other private insurance guidelines regarding physical therapy authorization
- CPR certification required within 6 months of hire.
The PCA is the first line of communication between the therapists, referring providers, and the patient. The PCA, therefore, represents the best part of the department for both the patient and therapists alike. This is accomplished through excellent customer service, empathy, and professionalism. A patient care advocate will assist in creating a positive rehabilitation environment in which patient centered care is paramount. The PCA will work in conjunction with the therapist to ensure proper continuity and appropriate delivery of care. The PCA is dedicated to each patient's clinical, financial, and emotional welfare. The PCA shall accomplish this mission through efficient and orderly processes for scheduling, pre-access screenings, and registration of outpatients. The PCA will ensure that complete and accurate registration information is collected, patients understand their financial responsibilities and payment options, and all incoming telephone calls are promptly and courteously answered and routed to the correct extension within the hospital.
