What are the responsibilities and job description for the OBW Mascot position at Ocean Breeze Waterpark?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represent the waterpark as our ambassador Hugh Mongous, a costumed character made in the likeness of our 45’ tall roadside landmark
- Be prepared to make frequent but brief outdoor in-park appearances, always in the full costume
- Appearances may be a walk about through the park navigating large crowds, waving roadside, connecting with guests waiting, visiting a party or occasionally off-site at a promotion
- Learn and perform a set of movements and routines during appearances so that interacting with you as Hugh Mongous is familiar, entertaining and enhances their waterpark visit
- Participate in videography and photography in costume, that will be used for waterpark promotion
- Develop new choreography and skits for review by leadership
- Learn and master how to identify guests, particularly youth, that are distressed and how to handle this and other crowd interaction strategies
- Work with promotions team members and other departments to navigate the park safely while in costume
- Responsible for the washing and care of the costume and Hugh’s dressing room
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment for customers and other employees
- Team members in the mascot role also have the opportunity to discuss representing the marketing and sales department or another departments in a guest facing ( out of costume) role not limited to but including foam canon operation
- Provide superior customer service to all customers in a polite and expedient manner
- Hugh Mongous is a non-speaking character. While in the costume you will use only movement to communicate with guests, always maintaining a family friendly and professional demeanor
- Follow park policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Must be at least 5’ 8” tall and no taller than 6’ 2”
- Acting and/or dancing experience is preferred
- Large personality once in the costume is helpful
- Navigate through large crowds
- You must have the ability to interact with small children
- Ability to accept guidance and supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively with public, customers and staff members
- Be aware, attentive, and work well with others
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to move in the costume, stand, or walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to wear a costume in outdoor weather conditions and taking precautions, including hydration, cooling features in the suit, and other precautions as necessary
- Dancing ability necessary
- Must be able to complete job tasks wearing the weight of the costume
