**Job Summary:**
We are seeking a dedicated and organized Lifeguard Coordinator to oversee our lifeguard staff and ensure the safety of guests at the Westerly-Pawcatuck Branch of the Ocean Community YMCA. The Lifeguard Coordinator will be responsible for managing lifeguard schedules, providing training and ongoing assessment, maintaining compliance with safety standards, and fostering a positive and professional environment for both members and staff. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in lifeguarding, leadership skills, and a commitment to promoting a safe recreational environment.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Recruit, hire, and oversee the daily operations of the lifeguard team, including scheduling and task assignment.
- Ensure that all lifeguards are properly trained, certified, and current with CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Organize and conduct ongoing training sessions and drills to enhance lifeguard skills, emergency response readiness, and communication.
- Monitor lifeguard performance during shifts, providing constructive feedback and coaching as necessary.
3. **Safety Compliance:**
- Ensure all safety protocols and procedures are adhered to, including pool rules, emergency evacuation plans, and incident reporting.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of facilities and equipment to ensure compliance with YMCA policies, as well as local and state health regulations.
- Serve as the main point of contact for lifeguard staff, addressing concerns and scheduling conflicts.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth operation of activities and events at the facility.
- Communicate clearly with guests regarding safety rules, pool operations, and emergency procedures.
- Address any guest concerns or issues regarding safety or facility use in a professional manner.
- Maintain accurate records of lifeguard certifications, training sessions, and incident reports.
- Provide regular reports to management regarding staffing, incidents, and overall pool safety.
**Qualifications:**
- High School diploma or equivalent; college degree in recreation, sports management, or related field preferred.
- Current certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid (preferably American Red Cross).
- Minimum of 2-3 years' experience as a lifeguard; previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make decisions in emergency situations.
**Physical Requirements:**
- Must be able to swim proficiently and perform rescues.
- Ability to stand for long periods and take part in physically demanding activities.
- Must be able to lift and carry equipment (up to 50 pounds) as needed.
