Wastewater Plant Operator
The Ocean County Utilities Authority, a public wastewater treatment facility consisting of three treatment plants and 40 pumping stations, is presently seeking a Plant Operator. The position is located in Brick, NJ.
The Plant Operator is responsible for the operation of the wastewater treatment plant and maintains the operation at maximum efficiency within discharge permit limitations, generating and submitting all reports required by the State and federal regulatory agencies pertaining to plant operations. If designated as signing operator, he/she will sign the required reports.
The Plant Operator is also responsible for coordinating maintenance activities necessary for proper operation of the treatment process, enforcing all safety procedures as well as reviewing and utilizing laboratory control data.
Supervisory responsibilities include:
- Organizing workflow and ensure that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks.
- Set goals for performance and deadlines and motivate employees to do the same.
- Monitor employee productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
- Conduct probationary and annual performance evaluations with employees.
The Plant Operator needs to be available on a 24-hour basis and participate in emergency planning and preparedness.
Required Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Completed and passed the Advanced Wastewater Course.
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or environmental science.
Required Work Experience: Ten (10) years of shift experience with the Authority in the operation of plant and pump station equipment or wastewater facility of similar design with a strong ability to manage and direct staff
Required Licenses and Certifications:
- Must possess and maintain a New Jersey Public Wastewater Operator Class S-4 License or actively pursuing and be thoroughly familiar with all State and federal requirements pertaining to wastewater treatment and reporting
New Jersey Public Wastewater Collection System – License Class C-4 or be actively pursuing the same by annual participation, when qualified in the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection licensing and examination program
Valid New Jersey driver license
