Position Summary:
Performs custodial duties, ensures adherence to safety and sanitation protocols, and is expected to embody the YMCA’s core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring while contributing to the overall mission of strengthening the community.
Essential Functions:
- Completes all duties as required by Facilities Director or Head Custodian and maintains the upkeep of assigned areas and equipment.
- Performs cleaning tasks which include but are not limited to: mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, pool cleaning, bathroom cleaning, painting, vacuuming/shampooing carpets and cleaning hard floors. Includes all other custodial duties as assigned.
- Seasonal tasks to include lawn care, snow removal, and general grounds keeping.
- Operates motorized and non-motorized cleaning equipment safely and effectively.
- Completes work and projects in a timely manner.
- Reports incidents and hazardous conditions to Facilities Director or Head Custodian on duty.
- Assists other departments as needed for ongoing or special events.
- Adheres to cleaning and sanitation protocols, including frequent touchpoint cleaning and use of PPE.
- Ensures that the OCYMCA building and property are secure at all times: lock/unlock areas when needed, secures building when facility is not in use or after hours.
- Completes all required duties on daily checklist as well as ensures all equipment, furniture, supplies, and tools are in the proper location.
Qualifications
- Six months or more experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
- Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of custodial and office equipment preferred.
- Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use preferred.
- Ability to follow directions and duties as assigned by Facilities Director or Head Custodian.
- Positive attitude, team player, and previous experience working with diverse populations.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to: climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for an extended period of time, climb ladders, walk, shovel snow, plow snow, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity. The work is performed both indoors and out. While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
