QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Washington State teaching certificate with a secondary (6-12) endorsement in English Language Arts and/or Social Studies.
  2. Preference for candidates with additional endorsements including: K-8, CTE, Art, and Spanish Language.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work in Alternative Learning Experience setting.
  4. Demonstrated successful teaching experience of secondary Science and/or Mathematics.
  5. Demonstrated ability to build relationships with individual students and families over a variety of grade levels.
  6. Demonstrated ability to adapt instruction and curriculum to meet a wide range of student needs, including students with identified needs in highly capable and special education.
  7. Demonstrated ability to create and use assessments including a formative assessment instructional cycle, benchmark assessments, and summative assessments.
  8. Demonstrated excellence in communication and organizational skills.
  9. Demonstrated ability to implement project based-based, multi-age experiential learning activities.
  10. Demonstrated willingness and desire to participate in district and state workshops, in-services, and classes relevant to providing quality teaching.
  11. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with fellow staff members, including strong communication skills.
  12. Demonstrated understanding and support of place-based learning.
  13. Demonstrated understanding of culturally responsive teaching practices.
  14. Demonstrated ability to manage online learning management systems.
  15. Knowledge and experience with state standards.
  16. Valid WA State substitute teacher certificate or ability to obtain one by the first day of employment.

 

PERFORMANCE  RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  1. Plan, develop and implement a course of instruction in English Language Arts for grades 6-12 designed to achieve student educational goals in collaboration with families.
  2. Plan, develop and implement enrichment classes for students in grades K-8.
  3. Develop educational programs focusing on self-paced, thematic, community connected, and project based learning for core and enrichment classes for grades K-12.
  4. Develop an alternative non-threatening, comfortable educational environment in a variety of settings.
  5. Collaborate with colleagues in school wide implementation of PBIS and MTSS.
  6. Work in team situations and work cooperatively with program and building certificated and classified staff to develop an alternative school program.
  7. Develop a written alternative learning experience plan for each student that provides a variety of program options for a diverse student population.
  8. Follow all alternative learning experience program expectations including weekly student contact, monthly student conferences, maintaining student learning plans, establishing intervention plans, informing students of progress and writing intervention plans.
  9. Communicate regularly with students and families about student progress and respond to questions/concerns in a timely manner, using a variety of methods and maintain records of weekly communications with students and families.
  10. Develop and be accountable for a flexible schedule of both time and place for alternative educational activities.
  11. Be on site during working hours for in-person meetings, tutoring, conferences, virtual meetings, responding to student needs, and other assigned responsibilities.
  12. Diagnoses and prescribes instructional levels for students.
  13. Maintains detailed and accurate student records.
  14. Develops effective positive techniques for improving student behavior and maintains order appropriate to a productive learning environment
  15. Uses district database programs to maintain student grading and attendance records.
  16. Work with other school, district, and community staff to meet identified student needs.
  17. Participates in both short and long-term instructional planning which may include customizing online learning and writing intervention plans.
  18. Maintains materials and equipment including submitting timely orders and inventories as required.
  19. Collaborate with school staff to plan and deliver maritime and place-based learning in alignment with the district’s mission and vision.
  20. Support students and families engaged in a fully online learning environment; track student progress and lead goal setting conferences to aid in completion of courses; provide technical assistance and troubleshoot login issues and course access.
  21. Support all programs at OCEAN School as needed, including registration, course selection, intervention supports, and direct instruction of courses.
  22. Participate in scheduled staff meetings and training.
  23. Other duties as assigned by the supervising principal.

Salary Range: Depending on Experience; 2024-25 Salary Range is currently set at $60,000 - $116,667 annually for a 1.0 FTE teacher. 

Note: Salary range will be increased for the 2025-26 school year, based on the legislative IPD (Implicit Price Deflator) percentage, and adjusted for a .5 contract.

Benefits include Sick Leave, Personal Leave, Medical, Dental, Vision, AD&D, and Basic Life insurance coverages.  Retirement is through the WA State Department of Retirement, plans available: TERS Plan 2 or TERS Plan 3.
