Role Summary
This critical role within our Rail Strategy & Planning team drives strategic initiatives and operational excellence in our North American rail vendor relationships. This position is responsible for maintaining rail contract rates and surcharges in OPUS, assisting in the management of rail vendor contracts, and conducting Inland Operations cost analyses. Collaborates with Marketing, Marine and Inland Procurement Strategic Yield Management, and Northern America Operations to evaluate routing and rate proposals, analyze commodity approval requests, report financial performance, and ensure contractual compliance with ONE rail vendors.
Additional Responsibilities
2 years of rail and/or ocean carrier intermodal operations experience preferred
Required Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred

Additional Responsibilities
- Financial Analysis & Cost Control: Conduct in-depth financial analysis of rail costs and track cost savings programs. Identify opportunities for cost optimization and efficiency improvements.
- Proposal Evaluation & Process Improvement: Evaluate proposals from Marketing, Inland Operations regarding inland rail routings, considering cost, service, and operational feasibility. Champion process improvements to enhance efficiency and service quality.
- Performance Reporting & Data Analysis: Generate insightful reports and dashboards on key performance indicators (KPIs) and internal benchmarks. Utilize data from our company data warehouse and operational systems to conduct a thorough analysis and identify trends.
- Contract Management & Compliance: Manage rail vendor contracts, ensuring compliance with service-level agreements and pricing terms. Monitor contractual obligations and address any discrepancies or exceptions. Maintain accurate records of service rates and contract agreements in internal systems.
- Vendor Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with rail vendors, fostering open communication and collaborative partnerships. Monitor rail market trends and industry developments to inform strategic decision-making.
- Service Quality Management: Monitor and report on rail service quality, proactively addressing performance concerns with vendors. Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to resolve service disruptions and improve overall reliability.
- Analytical & Financial: Strong analytical and financial skills, including experience with cost analysis, budgeting, and performance reporting.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Excel, other analytical tools, and G Suite. Experience with data warehousing and reporting systems is a plus.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with individuals at all levels. 1 Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach. Process Automation is a plus.
- Problem-Solving & Decision-Making: Ability to evaluate data, analyze problems, and make sound, data-driven decisions under pressure. Adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and prioritize effectively.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the rail industry and intermodal operations preferred.
